As India embraces the wider adoption of blended fuels, car owners are increasingly facing new considerations regarding engine and fuel-system protection. In response to this evolving mobility ecosystem, Zuno General Insurance has introduced Fuel Guard, a pioneering add-on cover designed to address specific risks.
What is Zuno Fuel Guard?
Fuel Guard is a new car insurance add-on that offers protection against accidental and unforeseen damage to specified engine and fuel-system components. Crucially, this cover applies only when the damage is directly caused by a manufacturer-approved blended fuel.
This initiative by Zuno comes as the shift towards blended fuels influences both vehicle technology and long-term ownership considerations. While manufacturers specify which fuels are approved for their models, the potential for unforeseen damage remains a concern for many vehicle owners.
Coverage and Conditions
The add-on specifically targets damage to the engine and fuel system resulting from approved blended fuels. However, it operates under strict conditions:
- The blended fuel used must be explicitly approved by the vehicle manufacturer for that particular model.
- The vehicle must adhere to the manufacturer's prescribed maintenance schedule.
- Cars with unauthorized engine or fuel-system modifications are not eligible for this cover.
Essentially, Fuel Guard is not a blanket cover for any damage caused by any blended fuel, emphasizing the importance of manufacturer guidelines.
Eligibility for Car Owners
Zuno's Fuel Guard is available for private cars registered on or after April 1, 2023, provided they meet Zuno's specific eligibility criteria. Customers can opt for this add-on alongside various private car package policies, standalone own-damage policies, and bundled policies. It can also be integrated into eligible three-year long-term policies.
This broad eligibility means the product is relevant not only for new car buyers but also for owners of qualifying existing vehicles seeking enhanced protection against fuel-related risks.
Insurance Adapts to Changing Mobility
Shanai Ghosh, MD & CEO of Zuno General Insurance, highlighted that the company's strategy is rooted in the belief that insurance protection must evolve in tandem with changes in the mobility landscape.
Fuel Guard aligns with Zuno's broader innovation-driven approach to motor insurance, which includes other offerings like Zuno SmartDrive. For car owners, the central message is clear: manufacturer approval of the fuel remains paramount for the new cover to be valid. Owners must ensure their vehicle uses approved fuel and that all maintenance and modification requirements are strictly followed.
Products like Fuel Guard signal a future where motor insurance will increasingly be tailored to specific risks emerging from advancements in vehicle power sources and maintenance practices.
