Zen Technologies Stock Plunges 10% After Q1 Earnings Miss Expectations

· · 2 min read

Shares of Zen Technologies tumbled over 10% on Monday, July 27, 2026, following the defense firm's Q1 earnings announcement. A significant year-on-year fall in revenue, EBITDA, and net profit fueled negative investor sentiment.

Zen Technologies, a prominent defense solutions provider, saw its shares plummet by 10.39% on Monday, July 27, 2026. The stock closed at Rs 1585.55, down from its previous close of Rs 1769.50, causing the firm's market capitalization to shrink to Rs 15,213 crore.

Q1 Financial Performance Disappoints

The sharp decline in Zen Technologies' stock price was primarily triggered by its weaker-than-expected first-quarter earnings. The company reported a 28% year-on-year fall in net profit, settling at Rs 34.4 crore compared to Rs 48 crore in the same period last year. Revenue also saw a notable decline of 10.5%, reaching Rs 141.6 crore from Rs 158.2 crore a year ago.

Operational performance also fell short, with Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization (EBITDA) decreasing by 40.2% to Rs 38.7 crore from Rs 64.7 crore. Consequently, the EBITDA margin contracted significantly from 40.9% to 27.3%.

Rising Operating Costs and Order Book Volatility

A surge in operating costs played a key role in eroding the company's profitability. Employee expenses climbed to 24% of revenue from 20% previously, manufacturing costs rose from 5% to 9%, and other expenses nearly doubled from 10% to 21% year-on-year.

Zen Technologies' order book also showed a decline, standing at Rs 1,239.02 crore as of June 30, 2026, a roughly 7% drop from the end of FY26. Despite this, management expressed optimism, anticipating an acceleration in order execution from the second quarter, driven by fresh inflows.
