YES Bank has launched the 'YES Essence' credit card, a new product specifically designed for women as primary cardholders. Currently available to salaried women, the card aims to cater to their evolving financial and lifestyle needs, moving beyond traditional shopping-focused rewards.
Addressing Evolving Financial Needs
Anil Singh, Country Head – Credit Cards & Merchant Acquiring at YES Bank, highlighted that the decision to create a women-centric card stemmed from observing shifts in women's financial behavior. Historically, women were often considered "add-on" users of credit cards, with primary financial relationships typically held by other family members. YES Bank recognized an opportunity to engage with women as independent customers, whose preferences differ from the broader customer base.
The bank conducted surveys and gathered customer feedback to develop a product that aligns with what women value in their daily lives. This research indicated a demand for a credit card that integrates everyday spending rewards with benefits spanning travel, wellness, and financial information.
Key Features and Benefits
The YES Essence Credit Card offers accelerated reward points across various categories, including dining, groceries, shopping, beauty, and travel. Cardholders can also earn up to 10,000 YES Rewardz upon reaching specific spending milestones. Additional perks include welcome vouchers for fashion, beauty, travel, and fitness brands, a birthday voucher, buy-one-get-one movie tickets, and complimentary coffee at select mall outlets nationwide.
Beyond lifestyle benefits, the card provides a subscription to a business and financial news platform, granting access to content on markets and personal finance. Singh emphasized the importance of easy access and redemption of these benefits, noting encouraging initial activation and spending.
Unique Focus on Preventive Healthcare
A distinctive feature of the YES Essence card is its inclusion of an annual preventive health check-up. This benefit specifically incorporates women-centric screenings, such as cancer-marker tests. Singh explained that this initiative aims to encourage women to prioritize their health, an aspect often overlooked amidst career and family responsibilities.
The bank sought to offer more than standard health check-ups, deliberately integrating crucial women-specific screenings to make preventive healthcare a meaningful component of the product, rather than a mere add-on.
Future Expansion and Broader Ecosystem
YES Bank acknowledges that women are increasingly taking ownership of their financial decisions, from daily expenditures to long-term planning. The bank anticipates that the rising participation of women in economic activity and wealth creation will further drive demand for tailored financial products.
While the YES Essence card is currently exclusive to salaried women, YES Bank is evaluating an extension to self-employed customers. The bank also offers YES Essence savings accounts, suggesting a long-term vision to build a comprehensive financial ecosystem for women, addressing various financial needs as their understanding of the segment deepens.
