VFS Global Expands Beyond Visas, Launches Property Registration Centers in Maharashtra

· · 2 min read

VFS Global, known for its global visa application services, has launched its first Model Sub-Registrar Office in Pune, Maharashtra. This strategic move aims to digitize and streamline property registration processes, with 60 such centers planned across the state.

VFS Global, a leading outsourcing and technology services specialist for governments worldwide, is diversifying its operations by venturing into property registration services in Maharashtra, India. The company, in a consortium with WE Excel Software Pvt. Ltd., inaugurated its first Model Sub-Registrar Office (SRO) in Pune on August 13, 2026.

Modernizing Property Registration

The new Pune SRO marks a significant step towards modernizing and digitizing property registration. Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule inaugurated the facility, emphasizing its role in making public services more citizen-centric. The initiative aims to alleviate common issues such as overcrowding and lengthy waiting times at traditional government offices, while ensuring robust government oversight and regulatory compliance.

These new centers will feature state-of-the-art digital infrastructure and trained service executives to guide applicants through the registration process. Facilities include air-conditioned spaces, waiting lounges with Wi-Fi, and amenities like refreshments and water dispensers, enhancing the overall user experience.

A New Line of Business for VFS Global

This expansion represents a significant strategic shift for VFS Global, moving beyond its core business of visa and consular services. The consortium secured a five-year contract from Maharashtra's Inspector General of Registration and Controller of Stamps in early 2026. Under this agreement, VFS Global and WE Excel Software will establish 60 Model SROs across Maharashtra in a phased manner.

While these new Model SROs will offer an optional, streamlined service, existing government property registration offices will continue to operate, providing citizens with choices for their registration needs. VFS Global currently manages 4,250 application centers across 169 countries, serving 71 governments and processing hundreds of millions of transactions since 2001.
