US Ambassador Hails JSW Steel's $500M Investment, Citing Strong US-India Partnership

· · 2 min read

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor lauded JSW Steel's over $500 million investment in Ohio and Texas facilities. This significant commitment strengthens American manufacturing, boosts economic growth, and creates jobs, exemplifying a robust US-India trade partnership.

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor has publicly praised JSW Steel's substantial investments in the United States, highlighting them as a prime example of a strong economic alliance between Washington and New Delhi. Gor emphasized that JSW Steel's commitment of more than $500 million across its facilities in Ohio and Texas is actively strengthening American manufacturing, driving economic growth, and creating jobs nationwide.

In a social media post on Monday, June 29, 2026, Ambassador Gor stated, "This is exactly what a strong U.S.-India trade partnership looks like! JSW Steel's $500M+ investments in Ohio and Texas are strengthening American manufacturing, driving economic growth, and creating jobs across the United States."

JSW's Strategic Expansions in North America

Gor's commendation follows an announcement by JSW Group Director Parth Jindal, who on Friday, June 26, 2026, revealed the commissioning of North America's largest Vacuum Tank Degasser and its most modern slab caster. This project, located at the Mingo Junction steel mill in Ohio, represents an investment of $165 million and is capable of producing 12-inch slabs.

Jindal explained that this expansion, the culmination of over three years of work, will enable JSW USA to fully meet customer demands in North America with "100% domestically melted and manufactured steel." This strategic move is expected to eliminate the need for JSW to import slabs from countries like Brazil, bolstering local supply chains.

Revitalizing US Steel Production and Jobs

The Mingo Junction facility, which had been dormant before JSW's revival efforts in 2019, has now transformed into one of the most advanced slab-making operations in North America. Beyond Ohio, JSW's plate and pipe mill in Baytown, Texas, is also undergoing a significant modernization program valued at $110 million, with commissioning anticipated by October 1, 2026.

Jindal confirmed that JSW's total investment across both its Ohio and Texas facilities exceeds $500 million. He attributed the feasibility of these expansions partly to the policies of the US President Donald Trump's administration and expressed pride in JSW's standing as one of the largest Indian investors in the United States, underscoring the company's long-term commitment to the American market.
