Hinduja Group to Invest ₹2,500 Crore in Tamil Nadu for Green Energy & EV Mobility

· · 2 min read

The Hinduja Group has committed ₹2,500 crore for investments in Tamil Nadu, focusing on renewable energy projects and advanced electric mobility solutions. This strategic move aims to expand the conglomerate's presence and support the state's transition to green energy and sustainable transport.

The Hinduja Group announced a substantial investment of ₹2,500 crore in Tamil Nadu, earmarking funds for renewable energy and new mobility solutions. This commitment, made on August 13, builds on the 111-year-old conglomerate’s long-standing operational presence in the state and its vision for sustainable growth.

Expanding Green Energy Footprint

A significant portion of the Hinduja Group Tamil Nadu investment will be channeled into renewable energy. Hinduja Renewables Energy Private Ltd (HREPL) is set to develop over 200 MW of green energy projects, incorporating solar, wind, and battery storage technologies. The group is actively seeking land and connectivity support in key regions including Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Virudhunagar, Madurai, and Coimbatore to facilitate these developments.

Advancing Electric Mobility Solutions

In the mobility sector, OHM Global Mobility Ltd will play a crucial role by operationalizing electric buses for public transport across Tamil Nadu. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to expand the group's mobility solutions value chain. The Hinduja Group will also explore further opportunities in automotive, financial services, energy, battery charging infrastructure, and digital mobility solutions as part of its comprehensive investment plan for the state.

Strategic Vision for Tamil Nadu's Future

Ashok Hinduja, Chairman of Hinduja Group of Companies (India), underscored the significance of this investment. “Our ₹2,500 crore commitment is a statement of our confidence in Tamil Nadu and our desire to participate in its next phase of growth,” Hinduja stated. He highlighted Tamil Nadu's robust industrial base, skilled talent pool, and substantial renewable energy potential as key factors positioning the state to lead India's energy and mobility transition.

Building on Prior Commitments

This latest Hinduja Group Tamil Nadu investment follows a previous Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in September 2025 by Hinduja Group UK with the Government of Tamil Nadu, valued at ₹7,500 crore. That MoU focused on the state's electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem, including battery manufacturing, battery energy storage systems, and charging infrastructure. Furthermore, in March 2026, Ashok Leyland, a Hinduja Group company, broke ground on a ₹500 crore greenfield battery pack manufacturing facility near Chennai, further solidifying the state's electric mobility supply chain.
