Tata Stocks Drop After Chandrasekaran Resignation: Key Support & Resistance Levels

· · 3 min read

Tata Group stocks, including TCS and Tata Motors, saw declines after Chairman N Chandrasekaran's decision not to seek reappointment. An analyst details key support and resistance levels for investors.

Tata Group stocks experienced a notable decline on Wednesday, influenced by a broader market sell-off and the significant news of Chairman N Chandrasekaran's decision not to seek reappointment ahead of the August 18 Annual General Meeting (AGM). Companies like Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (TCS), Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd (TMPV), and Tata Elxsi Ltd were among those witnessing downward pressure.

Amid these market movements, Mayank Jain, a market analyst at Share.Market (PhonePe), issued a note outlining crucial support and resistance levels for several key Tata Group stocks, offering investors insight into their near-term technical outlook.

TCS Short-Term Outlook

According to Jain, TCS's daily chart indicates the stock is in a prolonged secondary downtrend, following a primary distribution phase from peaks exceeding Rs 4,400. The stock is currently attempting to establish a short-term base within the Rs 2,000-2,300 structural support zone. Sustaining above these multi-month swing lows will be critical for near-term stability.

On the upside, Jain identified the Rs 2,670-2,700 region as the primary dynamic resistance zone, aligning with the 200-day simple moving average. A sustained daily close above the Rs 3,000-3,180 horizontal resistance confluence would be necessary to signal a structural trend reversal for the IT giant.

Tata Motors Short-Term Outlook

Tata Motors' stock reflects a short-term recovery pattern within a broader consolidation phase, having pulled back from its Rs 500-520 cycle highs. The daily chart shows a higher-low structure originating from the Rs 360 bottoming base, with immediate support situated at the Rs 400-410 moving average confluence of the 20-day and 50-day simple moving averages.

Maintaining this support zone is vital for the continuation of short-term momentum. Resistance for Tata Motors remains near the Rs 500-520 overhead supply area, where previous rally attempts have met selling pressure.

TMPV Short-Term Outlook

For Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd (TMPV), the daily technical setup reveals the stock is in an extended primary downtrend, having broken down from major historical highs near Rs 710. The stock continues to trade below key moving averages and is currently testing the Rs 320-335 immediate support floor.

A breach below Rs 320 would signal a continuation of lower-low price discovery. Resistance remains significant, with the downward-sloping 200-day simple moving average near Rs 357 acting as dynamic resistance, followed by structural hurdles in the Rs 390-400 region.

Tata Elxsi Short-Term Outlook

Tata Elxsi is in a broader correction phase from historical highs above Rs 10,700, characterized by a series of lower highs and lower lows. The stock recently formed a low near the Rs 3,400-3,500 short-term demand zone on the daily chart, staging a minor rally to close above its 20-day simple moving average.

However, for short-term relief, the stock must first overcome immediate resistance near the 50-day simple moving average at Rs 3,820. The 200-day simple moving average near Rs 4,600 continues to represent the dominant long-term resistance level.
