BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has formally declared his financial assets ahead of the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, stating a total wealth of Rs 85.87 lakh. His election affidavit, submitted as part of the nomination process, reveals that the prominent political figure owns neither gold nor a personal motor vehicle.
The declaration places Adhikari's wealth at more than five times that of current Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Banerjee's last declared assets were significantly lower, highlighting a notable financial disparity between the two political rivals.
Adhikari's Asset Breakdown
According to the affidavit, Adhikari's declared assets primarily consist of bank deposits and other movable assets. He reported Rs 20,000 in cash in hand. His bank accounts hold approximately Rs 69.50 lakh. Additionally, he has investments in various financial instruments totaling around Rs 15.37 lakh, which include insurance policies and other deposits.
Notably, Adhikari has no declared immovable assets such as land or residential property in his name. This contrasts with many public figures who often hold significant real estate portfolios.
Liabilities and Educational Background
The affidavit also details Adhikari's liabilities, which amount to Rs 13.91 lakh, primarily in the form of personal loans. His declared profession is 'social worker and politician'. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Vidyasagar University, completed in 1990.
This transparent declaration offers voters a glimpse into the financial standing of one of West Bengal's key political contenders. Such disclosures are a mandatory part of the electoral process, aiming to ensure accountability and provide voters with comprehensive information about their representatives.
