The Supreme Court of India, along with its Registry, will remain closed on Friday, September 11, 2026. This decision has been made in light of the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit scheduled to take place in New Delhi. To compensate for this holiday, Saturday, November 28, 2026, has been declared a full working day for the court.
The closure follows an Office Memorandum issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoP&T) on September 3, which mandated Central Government offices in Delhi to remain closed during the high-profile international event.
India Hosts 18th BRICS Summit in Delhi
India is set to host the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on September 12 and 13. Leaders from the BRICS member countries, along with various partner nations and Outreach Invitees, are expected to attend the two-day meeting.
As the BRICS chair for 2026, India's theme for the summit is "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability." The discussions will focus on enhancing cooperation among member states and addressing shared global and regional challenges. This summit also marks the culmination of India's year-long chairship, during which over 350 meetings and high-level engagements were conducted across more than 25 cities, covering political, security, economic, financial, and cultural exchanges.
BRICS: Two Decades of Cooperation and Expansion
This is India's fourth time chairing the BRICS grouping, having previously held the position in 2012, 2016, and 2021. The 2026 summit also commemorates 20 years since the grouping's inception. Originally comprising Brazil, Russia, India, and China, with South Africa joining later, BRICS has significantly expanded.
The organization now includes 11 member countries: Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates. It serves as a crucial platform for cooperation on political, economic, and global governance issues, reflecting its growing influence on the international stage.
