Years of dedication to SBI Funds Management have culminated in substantial financial gains for its senior leadership following the asset manager's successful stock market debut. The listing significantly boosted the value of employee shareholdings, unlocking multi-crore gains for several executives.
SBI Funds Management made a strong entrance on Dalal Street, listing at a premium of approximately 7% over its Initial Public Offering (IPO) price of ₹574 per share. The stock opened at ₹610 on the BSE and ₹613.30 on the NSE, marking a robust start for the company.
Top Executives See Multi-Crore Windfalls
The IPO transformed employee stock ownership into considerable paper wealth. According to the company's prospectus, 13 employees now hold equity stakes valued at over ₹1 crore based on the IPO price.
- Devinder Pal Singh: Deputy Managing Director, stands as the biggest gainer with his vested shareholding valued at approximately ₹121 crore from 21.14 lakh shares. He also holds unvested options potentially worth another ₹30 crore.
- Srinivasan Rama Iyer: Chief Investment Officer, holds vested shares worth about ₹105 crore (18.25 lakh shares), with unvested options valued at roughly ₹51 crore.
Other senior executives also realized significant gains. Srinivas Jain, Chief of Strategy, Digital & Technology and Head of Investor Relations, holds vested shares valued close to ₹59 crore. Rajeev Radhakrishnan, Chief Investment Officer – Fixed Income, saw his holdings reach about ₹36 crore, while Chief Risk Officer Aparna Nirgude's vested stake is worth approximately ₹31 crore. Vinaya Datar, Chief Compliance Officer, Company Secretary and Head of Legal, owns vested shares with an estimated value of around ₹21 crore.

The list of benefiting employee shareholders extends to senior leaders across finance, human resources, technology, and fund management. This includes Chief Financial Officer Inderjeet Ghuliani, Chief Human Resources Officer Rajat Grover, Chief Information Security Officer Sanjay Pugaonkar, and fund managers Mohan Lal and Mahesh Chhabria, each holding vested shares valued at more than ₹1 crore at the IPO issue price.
The employee stock option (ESOP) program, initially launched in 2018 and later revised, allotted options with exercise prices ranging from about ₹39 to ₹455 per share. With the IPO priced at ₹574 per share, employees who remained with the company through its growth have seen substantial gains on these grants.
Successful Market Entry
SBI Funds Management's market entry followed strong institutional demand. Ahead of the IPO, the company raised nearly ₹2,663 crore from anchor investors, with 129 prominent institutions, including BlackRock and Goldman Sachs, participating. It had also secured approximately ₹1,880 crore through a pre-IPO placement.
Investor interest remained robust throughout the three-day subscription period from July 14 to July 16. The issue was oversubscribed nearly 42 times overall, largely driven by qualified institutional buyers, whose portion was oversubscribed around 140 times. The non-institutional investor category saw subscriptions of 22.51 times, while the retail segment was subscribed 3.6 times, underscoring strong confidence in the asset manager.
