Shares of Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd (SAMIL) experienced a significant downturn on Friday, November 6, 2026, plunging nearly 9% despite several brokerages revising their target prices upwards following the company's robust September quarter (Q2) results. The stock fell 8.77% to hit a low of Rs 152.80 apiece, a move that analysts attributed to a broader market sell-off.

Strong Q2 Performance and Brokerage Optimism

SAMIL's Q2 performance showcased impressive growth, with Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization (EBITDA) and recurring Profit After Tax (PAT) increasing by 29-37% year-on-year. This strong showing exceeded Jefferies' estimates by 5-6%, largely fueled by strategic acquisitions and a favorable weaker rupee exchange rate.

In response to these results, several global investment banks updated their outlook for SAMIL:

  • Jefferies: Maintained a 'Buy' rating, raising its target price to Rs 200, indicating a potential 19% upside.
  • Nomura: Increased its target to Rs 190 from Rs 171.
  • Goldman Sachs: Upped its target to Rs 176 from Rs 165.
  • JPMorgan: Revised its target to Rs 205 from Rs 200.
  • Nuvama: Retained a ‘Buy’ rating, increasing its target to Rs 190 from Rs 178.
  • JM Financial: Reiterate 'BUY' with a revised target price of Rs 205 (previously Rs 200).
  • CLSA: Notably, CLSA revised its target downwards to Rs 127 from Rs 190.
  • Citi: Retained a 'Sell' rating but raised its target to Rs 140 from Rs 115.

Key Growth Drivers and Strategic Outlook

Analysts identified multiple factors expected to drive SAMIL's future growth. Jefferies highlighted expansion opportunities in electronics and aerospace sectors, the full-year contribution from recent acquisitions, and an anticipated recovery in North American commercial vehicle (CV) demand. Emkay Global echoed this positive sentiment, pointing to a robust H2 growth outlook supported by recovering CV industry demand across various markets, a healthy and expanding order book, and the scaling up of its consumer electronics business.

Nuvama analysts emphasized SAMIL's strong management capabilities, ongoing inorganic initiatives, a substantial order book valued at $106 billion, and increasing content per vehicle as key growth catalysts. JM Financial also noted strong demand in Indian autos, upcoming US contract wins, sustained US CV strength, and the expansion of non-auto segments, particularly consumer electronics and aerospace, projecting a revenue/EBITDA/PAT CAGR of 16%/20%/33% over FY26–29E.

Challenges and Risks

Despite the optimistic growth projections, some risks were acknowledged. Jefferies pointed to rising competition from Chinese original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in Europe as a potential challenge. Emkay Global also noted SAMIL’s significant consumer electronics capital expenditure guidance of Rs 7,500 crore, allocated for capacity expansion, backward integration, and new product development, with full ramp-up expected by FY28. Despite these substantial investments, JM Financial observed that SAMIL's leverage has remained stable at 0.8 times net debt to EBITDA.
