RVNL Stock: Expert Recommends Staggered Accumulation as Valuations Cool

· · 3 min read

RVNL shares, after a period of correction, are now seen as an accumulation opportunity by market expert Kranthi Bathini. He suggests patient investors consider staggered buying due to moderated valuations and long-term infrastructure visibility.

After a significant rerating cycle that saw railway stocks soar, shares of Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) have entered a phase of consolidation. While the momentum has slowed, market expert Kranthi Bathini suggests that current valuations present an attractive accumulation opportunity for patient, medium-to-long-term investors.

Valuations Moderate After Frothy Period

RVNL stock, currently hovering around the Rs 222-mark, has seen the exuberance around public-sector and infrastructure plays subside. This moderation in valuations follows a period where investor frenzy pushed railway counters to elevated price-to-earnings multiples, leaving many late entrants exposed when the rally cooled.

Bathini noted that the sharp 'froth' previously observed in these stocks has now eased. “When the momentum was on earlier, everybody was chasing these stocks,” he said, explaining that the subsequent 'U-turn' left investors who bought at higher levels in a difficult position.

Why RVNL is Back in Focus for Patient Investors

The renewed interest in RVNL is not driven by expectations of a short-term reversal, but rather by improved valuation comfort. According to Bathini, railway sector names, which once traded at rich multiples, have seen sufficient moderation to warrant a fresh look. He emphasizes that this is an opportunity for investors willing to build positions gradually rather than chasing quick returns.

“At these valuations, in a staggered manner, one can start adding at this point of time on a medium to longer term perspective,” Bathini advised. This reflects a broader market shift from momentum-driven buying to fundamentals-led accumulation.

Policy Visibility and Infrastructure Growth Underpin the Case

A key factor supporting the long-term railway theme is sustained policy visibility. Despite Union Budgets not always delivering blockbuster announcements for railway stocks, the structural narrative around rail modernization remains robust. Bathini highlighted expected investments in track upgrades, new lines, and logistics corridors as significant medium-term positives for the sector.

“They do have the clear visibility and the valuations have moderated,” he stated, indicating that the investment thesis now relies more on concrete execution visibility than speculative excitement. This makes RVNL a potential candidate for long-term portfolios, provided investors adopt a patient, staggered buying strategy.

Investor Strategy: Patience and Gradual Accumulation

For those considering RVNL, the message is clear: this is not a high-conviction short-term trade. Instead, it is evolving into a gradual accumulation story within a sector that has undergone a necessary valuation reset. The broader takeaway is that railway stocks may be entering a more mature phase, where earnings visibility, government spending, and project execution will be more critical than headline-driven momentum.

Long-term investors looking at the Indian railway infrastructure story might find RVNL worth revisiting, but only with a disciplined approach to building positions over time.
