Rajinikanth's 'Jailer 2' Box Office Dips as 'Ramayana' Nears Release

· · 3 min read

Rajinikanth's film "Jailer 2" saw a noticeable dip in its 16th-day domestic collections, bringing its worldwide total to ₹776.95 crore. The upcoming release of Ranbir Kapoor and Yash-starrer "Ramayana" on November 5 poses a significant threat to its screen count.

Rajinikanth's latest blockbuster, "Jailer 2," is experiencing a slowdown in its theatrical run. After a strong performance, the film recorded a notable dip in its daily box office collections on its 16th day. This decline comes as the highly anticipated mythological epic "Ramayana," starring Ranbir Kapoor and Yash, prepares for its grand release on November 5, potentially impacting "Jailer 2's" remaining screen availability.

Jailer 2's Continued Run and Recent Dip

Despite the recent dip, "Jailer 2" remains a certified blockbuster, having garnered impressive numbers since its release. According to film trade reports, the movie saw approximately a 12% drop in its daily business on its third Friday. The film's domestic collections for its first week stood at ₹334.35 crore, followed by ₹95.55 crore in its second week.

On its 16th day, "Jailer 2" added ₹5.50 crore to its domestic tally, pushing its total India net collection to ₹435.40 crore (grossing ₹509.45 crore). Globally, the film has amassed a substantial ₹267.50 crore from overseas markets, bringing its worldwide total earnings to a remarkable ₹776.95 crore.

'Ramayana' Gears Up for Diwali Release

The real challenge for "Jailer 2" now emerges from the impending release of "Ramayana." The mythological epic, featuring Ranbir Kapoor and Yash, is set to hit screens on November 5, just in time for the crucial Diwali festive period. Trade analysts predict that "Ramayana's" arrival could lead to a significant reallocation of screens, drawing them away from ongoing films like "Jailer 2."

Advance bookings for "Ramayana" have shown strong momentum, with ticket sales nearing ₹20 crore with five days still to go until its release. As of Saturday morning, the film had sold 4.01 lakh tickets across 9,050 shows. The Hindi version alone accounted for ₹16.28 crore in advance bookings, while Kannada shows contributed ₹2.56 crore. Telugu and Tamil versions recorded sales of ₹67.10 lakh and ₹10.51 lakh, respectively.

Major metropolitan areas have been key contributors to "Ramayana's" advance booking success, including the National Capital Region (₹3.25 crore), Bengaluru (₹3.12 crore), Mumbai (₹2.48 crore), Hyderabad (₹97.59 lakh), and Pune (₹92.13 lakh).

Box Office Predictions for 'Ramayana'

Industry experts are projecting a robust opening for "Ramayana." If its advance bookings close between ₹40-45 crore, the film is expected to achieve an opening day net collection of around ₹75 crore in India. Paid previews, potentially held on November 4, could further boost this figure by an additional ₹10-15 crore.

The film's release strategically aligns with the Diwali festivities, with Dhanteras on November 6, Choti Diwali on November 7, and Diwali on November 8. This timing, while tricky, is expected to drive its first weekend net collection to an impressive ₹225-240 crore. Should the film receive positive word-of-mouth, the subsequent Govardhan Puja and Bhai Dooj holidays could propel its six-day total to approximately ₹400 crore net.
