The opulent 404-foot superyacht Al Lusail, owned by Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, has re-entered service following a comprehensive seven-month refit estimated to cost $35 million. The vessel, valued at approximately $500 million, is now prepared for the upcoming 2026 summer season.
Extensive Overhaul for a Global Flagship
Built by renowned German shipyard Lürssen, the Al Lusail has been in service since its delivery in 2017. The recent yard period, likely conducted at Lürssen's Bremen/Lemwerder facilities—one of the few capable of handling vessels over 100 meters—underscores the significant investment required to maintain one of the world's largest and most luxurious private yachts.
While the exact scope of the refit was not disclosed by Lürssen, the work is understood to have encompassed a wide range of technical and cosmetic upgrades. This included crucial class checks, inspections of the hull and underwater gear, maintenance on propellers and rudders, generator servicing, HVAC attention, and automation system updates. Substantial cosmetic work, such as a full hull repaint, extensive teak deck restoration across its six decks, and meticulous attention to its distinctive glass facades and glazing, would have also contributed significantly to the project's duration and cost.
Luxury Features and Design
Designed with an exterior by H2 Yacht Design and interiors by March & White, the Al Lusail is a testament to cutting-edge maritime engineering and bespoke luxury. A defining characteristic of the yacht is its expansive glass facades, which span the superstructure, providing panoramic views and flooding the interiors with natural light. The intricate combination of glass, curved lines, sophisticated lighting, and premium finishes adds to the complexity and expense of its upkeep.
Though the interiors of the privately owned yacht remain largely confidential, it is known to feature a dramatic central atrium, designed to create a sense of openness and avoid the common long-corridor layouts found on many large vessels. The yacht can comfortably accommodate up to 36 guests across 18 lavish suites, in addition to quarters for 56 crew members.
Amenities on board are extensive, including a beach club, multiple pools and Jacuzzis, a helipad, a private cinema, a fully equipped gym, a beauty salon, a spa, various wellness areas, and dedicated barbecue spaces. Powered by twin MTU diesel engines, the Al Lusail boasts a top speed of 19 knots and a range of approximately 4,500 nautical miles, carrying 500,000 litres of fuel. With its refit complete, the yacht, along with its custom tenders, is fully prepared for its next season of voyages.
