Shares of PNC Infratech Ltd. experienced a significant downturn in trading, sliding 9.65 percent to a fresh one-year low of Rs 126.85 on Wednesday. This decline contributed to a total plunge of 27.72 percent over two trading days.
The sharp fall was triggered by an announcement from the company on Monday regarding a critical development. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) extended a three-year debarment, originally imposed on Awadh Expressway Pvt Ltd, to PNC Infratech as its promoter. This decision, conveyed via a letter from NHAI on September 11, 2026, means PNC Infratech will be barred from participating in any bids floated by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), NHAI, and their associated executing agencies for a period of three years.
Impact on Future Bidding and Legal Recourse
In a regulatory filing, PNC Infratech confirmed receipt of the NHAI letter. The debarment directly affects the company's ability to secure new projects from major government infrastructure bodies, which could significantly impact its future growth pipeline. The company stated it is actively evaluating all available legal remedies to challenge the NHAI's decision.
Company Reassures on Ongoing Projects and 'Going Concern' Status
Despite the severe market reaction and the debarment's implications for new business, PNC Infratech sought to reassure investors. The company affirmed that this development would not impact its status as a 'going concern' or the execution, operation, and maintenance of its existing ongoing projects. "This will not impact the company's status as a going concern and/or the execution, operation, and maintenance of its ongoing projects," the company stated.
PNC Infratech also indicated that it would disclose any potential financial implications arising from the debarment once further clarity emerges on the matter. This latest event follows an earlier disclosure by the company on August 6, 2026, concerning the concessionaire's initial debarment.
"NHAI vide its letter dated 11.9.2026 extended the debarment of the Concessionaire to the Company, being its Promoter. The Company received a letter from NHAI (Authority) on 11.9.2026," PNC Infratech stated in its exchange filing.
The company's shares are closely watched as investors weigh the long-term effects of being excluded from new government tenders against the stability of its current project portfolio.
