Composer and filmmaker Palash Muchhal is currently under police investigation in Sangli, Maharashtra, following a First Information Report (FIR) lodged by Vidnyan Mane, a childhood friend of Indian cricket vice-captain Smriti Mandhana. Mane has accused Muchhal of financial misconduct related to a proposed film project and caste-based abuse.
Allegations of Financial Misconduct
According to the complaint filed by Vidnyan Mane, Palash Muchhal allegedly took ₹25 lakh from him as an investment in a film titled 'Nazariya'. Mane claims he was promised a role in the project, with the understanding that his investment, along with profits, would be returned after the film's release. However, the film was reportedly never made, and Mane's repeated requests for the return of his funds were allegedly ignored by Muchhal.
Claims of Caste-Based Abuse
In addition to the financial allegations, Mane has also accused Muchhal of subjecting him to casteist slurs and derogatory remarks. The incident is said to have occurred on November 22, 2025, at a farmhouse in Sangli, when Mane met Muchhal in person to demand his money. Mane states he was humiliated over his caste identity during this meeting.
Police Investigation Underway
Deputy Superintendent of Police Sandeep Bhagwat confirmed that an FIR has been registered against Palash Rajkumar Muchhal, a resident of Mumbai, based on the complaint by 34-year-old Vidnyan Prakash Mane of Sangli. The case has been filed under the Atrocities Act, addressing both the financial allegations and the claims of caste-based abuse. Authorities have stated that a thorough investigation into the matter is currently in progress.
Context: Mandhana-Muchhal Wedding Cancellation
This development follows earlier reports of the cancellation of Smriti Mandhana and Palash Muchhal's wedding, which was initially scheduled for November 2025. The ceremony was reportedly postponed due to Mandhana's father's hospitalization, with both parties later confirming the cancellation in December 2025 and requesting privacy regarding their personal lives.
