Ola Electric Shares Plunge 9% as Board Considers Rights Issue for Fundraise

· · 2 min read

Ola Electric shares dropped over 9% on Friday ahead of a board meeting to consider a proposed rights issue. The company aims to raise funds, allowing existing shareholders to participate, despite recent stock volatility.

Shares of Ola Electric Mobility Ltd experienced a sharp decline on Friday, falling 9.10 percent to hit a low of Rs 38.65. This downturn occurred as the company announced its Board of Directors would convene on Monday, September 28, 2026, to deliberate on a proposal to raise capital through a rights issue of equity shares.

The proposed fundraise, subject to necessary regulatory and statutory approvals, is intended to enable participation from all eligible shareholders, including retail, institutional, and promoter groups, according to the company's exchange filing. A rights issue allows a company to offer additional shares exclusively to its existing shareholders.

Stock Performance Context

The significant drop on Friday followed a period of gains for Ola Electric's stock, which had risen in each of the preceding four trading sessions. Despite this recent dip, the company's shares have demonstrated robust growth over the past six months, increasing by 62.36 percent.

Ola Electric's EV Innovations

In related news, Ola Electric recently commenced bookings for its S1Z electric scooter range, positioning it as their most accessible model with prices starting at Rs 79,999. CEO Bhavish Aggarwal highlighted that the S1Z is the first scooter range in India powered by the company's indigenous Bharat Cell LFP technology. These cells, developed at Ola's Battery Innovation Centre and manufactured at its Tamil Nadu Gigafactory, are crucial for reducing the overall cost of electric vehicles, as battery expenses constitute a substantial portion of an EV's price. The S1Z claims an impressive range of up to 301 km under IDC testing.
