NSE IPO Price Band Revised to ₹1,700-1,785; Stake Sale Trimmed to 5.5%

· · 2 min read

The National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) is reportedly targeting a revised IPO price band of ₹1,700-1,785 per share, with the stake sale trimmed to 5.5%. This adjustment follows concerns about market absorption and shareholder withdrawals.

The National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) is preparing to launch its highly anticipated initial public offering (IPO) with a revised price band and reduced stake sale, according to recent reports. The exchange is now expected to price its shares in the range of ₹1,700 to ₹1,785 apiece, a reduction from the earlier anticipated range of ₹2,000 to ₹2,100.

Details of the Revised Offering

Sources familiar with the matter indicate that the NSE may also trim the total stake offered in the IPO to 5.5% from the previously announced 6%. At the upper end of this proposed price band, a 5.5% stake sale is projected to raise approximately ₹24,300 crore, or $2.6 billion. This would value the NSE, which operates the world's largest derivatives exchange by trading volume, at an estimated ₹4.42 lakh crore ($46.6 billion).

The reduction in both the price band and the offering size is attributed to concerns within the market regarding its capacity to absorb several large public offerings concurrently. Additionally, some shareholders reportedly withdrew from selling their stakes at the lower price point, contributing to the adjustment.

Timeline and Key Participants

The NSE filed its draft prospectus in June, and India's market regulator granted approval for the IPO prospectus on September 4. The exchange is expected to officially announce the revised price band this week, with the IPO likely opening for subscription in the week of September 14. However, discussions are ongoing, and final details could still be subject to change.

The IPO is structured as an offer for sale (OFS), meaning the proceeds will go to selling shareholders rather than the company itself. Prominent shareholders offloading stakes include:

  • Morgan Stanley
  • Temasek Holdings
  • State Bank of India
  • Stock Holding Corporation of India Ltd.
  • General Insurance Corporation of India
  • New India Assurance Co Ltd.
  • National Insurance Co Ltd
  • Oriental Insurance

This IPO represents a significant event in the Indian financial market, though its revised scale reflects prevailing market conditions and investor sentiment.
