· · 2 min read

Novartis India Ltd. shares soared 18% to a new record, extending a 9-day rally, following two major business developments. The company secured an exclusive distribution agreement for its retina portfolio and acquired Pfizer's Minipress trademarks for Rs 1,250 crore.

Shares of Novartis India Ltd. experienced a significant surge on Thursday, climbing 18% to reach a new record high. This marked the ninth consecutive session of gains for the pharmaceutical firm, pushing its stock up by 74% since August 28.

Key Agreements Propel Stock Performance

The impressive rally is attributed to two pivotal business announcements. Firstly, Novartis India entered into an exclusive promotion and distribution agreement with Novartis Healthcare Private Ltd. This deal focuses on the distribution of its retina portfolio in India, which includes key products like Accentrix and Pagenax.

Secondly, the company announced the acquisition of the Minipress and Minipres trademarks, along with associated intellectual property, from Pfizer Inc., USA, and Pfizer Products Inc., USA. This strategic purchase is valued at approximately Rs 1,250 crore and covers trademarks registered within India.

Minipress Acquisition Details

The Minipress brand, particularly Minipress XL, is a well-established pharmaceutical product in India. It contains prazosin and is primarily prescribed for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) and for managing urinary symptoms linked to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

According to IQVIA MAT July 2026 data cited by Novartis India, Minipress XL generated revenues of Rs 228.6 crore and demonstrated a compounded annual growth rate of 6.3% over the past four years. The acquisition of such a prominent and revenue-generating brand is expected to significantly bolster Novartis India's market presence and product offerings in the country.

The combination of these distribution and acquisition agreements has generated strong investor confidence, leading to the substantial appreciation in Novartis India's share price.
