Nembharat Debuts Zero-Commission Ride-Hailing in Delhi-NCR
World Economic Mobility Limited (WEML) has introduced NEMBHARAT, a pioneering ride-hailing platform, to the Delhi-NCR region. Launched on International Labour Day, the platform distinguishes itself as India’s first large-scale zero-subscription, zero-commission mobility service. This initiative directly addresses long-standing grievances from app-based drivers regarding high commission cuts and escalating operational costs, aiming to foster an equitable ecosystem for both drivers and passengers.
A Driver-First, Passenger-Aligned Model
Under the NEMBHARAT model, drivers are guaranteed to retain 100 percent of the fare from every trip. This isn't a temporary promotion but a permanent structural design intended to correct existing imbalances in India’s ride-hailing sector. Deepak K Shah, Director and CEO of WEML, emphasized this shift:
"We see this as a structural correction to the way value is distributed in the mobility ecosystem. When driver earnings are protected, service quality improves, and that directly benefits the passenger."The company posits that financially stable drivers are more likely to deliver reliable, safer, and higher-quality services, ultimately enhancing passenger satisfaction.
Addressing India's Gig Economy Challenges
The launch of NEMBHARAT comes at a crucial time for India’s burgeoning gig economy, where debates over fair compensation and working conditions persist despite rapid sector expansion. Projections suggest the country’s gig workforce could swell to over 23 million by 2029. Abhijeet Sinha, Program Director for Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) and National Highways for Electric Vehicles (NHEV), highlighted the broader significance, stating,
"India’s path to Viksit Bharat 2047 will be defined by how we move securely, sustainably, and with self-reliance."He underscored mobility's role as a fundamental pillar of national growth.
Kanchi Sharma, Chief Operating Officer, articulated the platform's dual objective:
"With NEMBHARAT, the objective is not just to create another ride-hailing service, but to demonstrate that a fair system for drivers also creates a better experience for passengers."
Enhanced Safety and Premium Services
NEMBHARAT is not solely focused on financial fairness; it also integrates a robust safety framework. This includes mandatory Know Your Customer (KYC) verification for all users, an SOS functionality for emergencies, and a structured incident response mechanism designed to protect both riders and drivers. Additionally, the platform is set to introduce a premium chauffeur-driven category. This segment will focus on highly trained drivers and elevated service standards, catering to urban commuters seeking a superior travel experience.
