Delhi is gearing up for a significant addition to its tourism landscape with the impending launch of the Namo Yamuna River Safari. Expected to commence operations in November, the cruise will offer visitors a unique 40-minute experience along a six-kilometre stretch of the Yamuna River.
Namo Yamuna River Cruise Details and Route
The new Namo Yamuna River cruise will operate between Sonia Vihar and Jagatpur, covering a scenic six-kilometre segment of the river. Each round trip is designed to last approximately 40 minutes, with boats capable of accommodating up to 30 passengers. Plans indicate at least four trips will be conducted daily, providing ample opportunity for visitors to enjoy the ride.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, accompanied by Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra and other officials, recently inspected the cruise facilities and participated in a trial run. “Our effort is to have its inauguration before the Chhath Mahaparv. This will become a beautiful picnic spot for families, where full attention will be given to nature and the cleanliness of Mother Yamuna,” Chief Minister Gupta stated, highlighting the project’s dual focus on recreation and environmental stewardship.
Safety and Amenities Onboard
Passenger safety and comfort are central to the Namo Yamuna River cruise design. Each boat will be equipped with safety jackets and an announcement system. Crucially, the vessels will feature inboard bio-toilets, specifically engineered to prevent any waste discharge into the river, aligning with efforts to maintain the Yamuna's cleanliness.
The project, which saw an agreement signed between the Inland Waterways Authority of India and Delhi government agencies in March 2025, aims to transform the area upstream of the Wazirabad barrage into a vibrant cruise tourism hub.
Future Plans and Proposed Pricing
Beyond the river cruise itself, the government envisions developing the surrounding area into a comprehensive family picnic destination. Proposed future facilities include a restaurant, a food park, a dedicated children's zone, a musical fountain, and various water sports options. This expansion is expected to create new recreational opportunities for families and generate employment.
While the final sailing date and cruise fare await confirmation, proposed pricing includes a premises entry fee of Rs 50 and a complete cruise trip cost of Rs 500. Tickets are expected to be available for purchase online through the Delhi Tourism website once details are finalized.
