The GSB Seva Mandal, recognized as one of Mumbai's most affluent Ganesh mandals, has significantly increased its insurance coverage for the upcoming Ganeshotsav festival. For its 72nd annual celebration, the mandal has secured an extensive insurance policy worth ₹703.27 crore, a substantial rise from last year's ₹474 crore cover.
This year's Ganeshotsav festivities for the GSB Seva Mandal will take place at King's Circle from September 14 to 18, spanning five days. The traditional Ganesh festival typically runs for ten days, commencing on September 14.
Precious Adornments and Enhanced Security
The central attraction, the Maha Ganpati idol, will be sumptuously decorated with more than 66 kg of gold and 335 kg of silver ornaments. These precious metals and gemstones are typically donated by devoted followers and volunteers (sevadars) of the mandal.
Mandal spokesperson Amit Pai emphasized the importance of safety, stating, "This year we have taken Ganeshotsav insurance cover of Rs 703.27 crore. Being a responsible mandal, it is our responsibility to ensure the safety and security of every devotee." The comprehensive insurance package covers various aspects, including public liability, personal accident, and potential risks to the valuable ornaments and assets.
Community Service and Environmental Initiatives
Beyond the elaborate decorations and security measures, the GSB Seva Mandal is also known for its extensive charitable activities. During the five-day celebration, over 40,000 people are expected to benefit daily from the mandal's 'annadaan seva' (food charity service). Additionally, more than two lakh individuals are anticipated to receive prasad throughout the festival.
In a commitment to environmental consciousness, the mandal has confirmed that the Maha Ganpati idol is eco-friendly. Furthering its green initiatives, the GSB Seva Mandal has replaced traditional printed receipts with digital versions to minimize paper waste, promoting a more sustainable Ganeshotsav celebration.
The mandal's annual event at King's Circle remains a highlight of Mumbai's Ganeshotsav, celebrated for its grand decorations, significant assets, and profound religious and charitable contributions.
