Moreau Paris Enters India: STRROT Taps Discerning Luxury Buyers

· · 3 min read

French luxury leather maison Moreau Paris makes its India debut through STRROT, a curated destination by Sidhant Lamba. This launch targets a growing segment of Indian consumers seeking heritage, craftsmanship, and unique design beyond traditional logos.

The historic French luxury leather goods brand, Moreau Paris, has officially launched in India, partnering exclusively with STRROT, a curated luxury design and lifestyle destination founded by Sidhant Lamba. This strategic entry reflects a significant shift in India's burgeoning luxury market, where consumers are increasingly seeking out heritage, craftsmanship, and unique, understated brands over ubiquitous logos.

Moreau Paris: A Legacy of Discreet Luxury

Founded in Paris in the 19th century, Moreau Paris traces its origins to 1882, when it opened its boutique on the prestigious Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré. The maison quickly gained recognition for its distinctive geometric motif, inspired by the intricate woven wicker patterns of luxury trunks. This visual language remains a cornerstone of its appeal, resonating with those who appreciate luxury that is quietly recognizable. Today, Moreau Paris maintains a global presence with stores in major cities including Paris, Tokyo, Seoul, and New York.

STRROT's Vision for India's Evolving Luxury Market

Sidhant Lamba, the founder of STRROT, has been instrumental in bringing Moreau Paris to India. Lamba's vision for STRROT, which has evolved over two decades, is to curate and introduce global luxury brands that align with the increasingly sophisticated tastes of Indian consumers. "India is becoming a brand conscious society. If we do not bring things from around the world, we will lose the interest of people," Lamba states, explaining the rationale behind STRROT's expanded portfolio.

The shift became particularly pronounced after the COVID-19 pandemic, as consumer preferences moved towards more personal, intentional, and less ostentatious forms of luxury. STRROT has responded by building a diverse portfolio that includes global names in design, art, home, and personal accessories, such as Seletti and Driade from Italy, Lotus Arts de Vivre from Thailand, and Ébano from Spain. Moreau Paris represents a crucial addition, bridging the realms of fashion, function, and design.

India's Growing Appetite for Distinctive Luxury

The timing of Moreau Paris's entry is opportune, coinciding with robust momentum in India's premium retail market. Driven by rising disposable incomes and increased global exposure, demand for heritage-led brands is surging. A February 2025 report by JLL India highlighted this trend, noting that 27 new foreign retail brands entered India in 2024, nearly doubling the 14 entries recorded in 2023.

This growth is not merely about scale but also about the changing nature of aspiration. Consumers are actively seeking out brands that offer exclusivity and a compelling story. Lamba observes that modern buyers often research extensively online before making purchasing decisions, demonstrating a high level of awareness. He notes, "People have already expressed interest since the morning of the launch. They knew what they were coming for."

While Moreau Paris may draw comparisons to other storied brands like Goyard, Moynat, and Fauré Le Page, it carves its own niche. Significantly, Moreau Paris stands out as the only brand among this distinguished group to be officially available offline in India, offering a unique advantage in the booming luxury market.

"If I do not use the brand myself, I do not believe I can sell it," says Sidhant Lamba, highlighting his personal commitment to the brands he curates. "I always ask myself, would I use it, or have I used it? Otherwise, I would not bring it."

Moreau Paris's India debut through STRROT underscores a pivotal moment in the country's luxury narrative. It signifies a market that values narrative, artisanal craft, and individuality as much as, if not more than, conventional markers of status.
