MG Hector Hawk PHEV SUV Debuts in India, Targeting 1,000 km Range

· · 2 min read

JSW MG Motor India launches the Hector Hawk, its first plug-in hybrid SUV in India, promising a 1,000 km driving range. It combines a 1.5L petrol engine with an electric motor and a 20.5 kWh battery pack.

JSW MG Motor India has officially unveiled the highly anticipated MG Hector Hawk SUV, marking its significant entry into India's burgeoning plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) segment. Positioned as a “New Energy Vehicle” (NEV), the Hector Hawk is designed to offer a blend of fuel efficiency and extended driving capability, with an impressive claimed range of up to 1,000 km on a full tank and battery charge.

Power and Performance: The PHEV Advantage

The core of the MG Hector Hawk's appeal lies in its sophisticated plug-in hybrid powertrain. It features a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine working in tandem with an electric motor, powered by a substantial 20.5 kWh battery pack. This combined system is expected to deliver approximately 197 PS of power and 230-239 Nm of torque, enabling the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in under 10 seconds and reach a top speed of around 170 kmph. While specific India-spec performance figures are awaiting official confirmation, these projections highlight its dynamic capabilities.

The Hector Hawk is believed to be based on the globally available Wuling Starlight 560, adapted for the Indian market under MG's established Hector branding. It will be offered in both five-seat and seven-seat configurations, designed to sit above the current Hector models in MG's portfolio.

Advanced Cabin and Technology

Inside, the MG Hector Hawk promises a technology-rich and comfortable experience. Drivers and passengers will benefit from a prominent 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, running MG's intuitive Ling OS, complemented by an 8.8-inch fully digital instrument cluster. The cabin is expected to feature premium amenities such as:

  • Leather upholstery
  • Wireless phone charging
  • Automatic climate control
  • Connected car technology
  • Cruise control

Comprehensive Safety Features

Prioritizing occupant safety, MG is equipping the Hector Hawk with an extensive suite of advanced safety technologies. This includes a Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), which incorporates features like Adaptive Cruise Control and Forward Collision Warning. Further enhancing safety are:

  • Six airbags
  • A 360-degree HD camera
  • Electronic Stability Program (ESP)

Market Position and Impact

With its official debut on July 16, the MG Hector Hawk aims to carve out a significant niche in the Indian automotive landscape. If launched at a competitive price, it could emerge as one of the country's first mainstream plug-in hybrid SUVs. This positions the Hector Hawk as an attractive alternative to traditional petrol, diesel, and even fully electric vehicles, offering the flexibility of long-distance travel combined with efficient electric-only city driving.
