Travelers arriving early or departing late from their destinations often face the inconvenience of waiting hours for hotel rooms to become available or having to vacate their rooms long before their flights. MakeMyTrip, a leading online travel agency, has launched a new feature designed to alleviate this common travel hurdle: pre-booked early check-in and late check-out options.
This innovative service allows guests to reserve additional room hours directly at the time of booking, eliminating the uncertainty of last-minute requests at the hotel front desk. The feature offers flexible booking windows of three, six, or nine hours, which are confirmed and prepaid, ensuring a seamless experience for travelers.
Addressing a Common Travel Challenge
MakeMyTrip's internal booking data highlights the widespread nature of this issue. Statistics show that a significant 53% of travelers reach their destinations before 9 AM, while 54% depart after 3 PM. These figures often clash with standard hotel check-in times, which typically fall between 2 PM and 3 PM, leaving many individuals, families, and senior citizens with extended periods of waiting.
The demand for this flexibility is evident in early adoption rates, with early check-in bookings accounting for 77% of all slots booked through the new service so far. This reflects a clear need among travelers who frequently arrive after overnight journeys by flight, train, or bus, only to find their rooms unavailable for several hours.
Extensive Network and Benefits
The new early check-in and late check-out feature is available across a vast network of over 10,000 hotels, villas, and homestays within India. Internationally, the service extends to more than 1,000 properties across 20 global destinations, including popular short-haul spots like Singapore, Bangkok, and Hanoi, as well as long-haul destinations such as New York, Dubai, Pattaya, Bali, and Kuala Lumpur.
Previously, some travelers resorted to booking an entire extra night to gain access to a room for just a few morning hours, an expensive workaround that this new feature aims to replace. MakeMyTrip states that its platform automatically identifies suitable early check-in or late check-out windows during the booking process, leveraging available flight, train, or bus details.
This arrangement offers mutual benefits: travelers gain confirmed access and comfort, while hotel partners can monetize room inventory that might otherwise remain unused during off-peak hours, optimizing their operational efficiency and guest satisfaction.
