LPG e-KYC Deadline Nears: Indane, Bharat Gas, HP Gas Users Face Higher Rates

· · 4 min read

Customers of Indane, Bharat Gas, and HP Gas must complete Aadhaar-based e-KYC by August 16, 2026, or risk losing access to domestic-rate LPG cylinders. Missing the deadline could mean paying significantly higher commercial prices.

LPG customers across India, particularly those served by Indane, Bharat Gas, and HP Gas, are facing a critical deadline: August 16, 2026. Failure to complete Aadhaar-based biometric authentication (e-KYC) by this date could result in significant financial implications, as consumers may lose eligibility for domestic-rate LPG cylinders.

Indian Oil, along with other oil marketing companies, has issued urgent reminders to non-PMUY (Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana) customers to finalize their e-KYC process. This initiative aims to enhance transparency, prevent misuse, and ensure that subsidized or domestic-rate cylinders reach genuine beneficiaries.

What Happens If You Miss the August 16 Deadline?

While missing the deadline does not automatically lead to the cancellation of an LPG connection, it could render customers ineligible to receive cylinders at the significantly lower domestic rates. Until the e-KYC verification is successfully completed, consumers may be required to purchase LPG cylinders at commercial rates, which are substantially higher.

Price Discrepancy: Domestic vs. Commercial LPG

The financial impact of this change is considerable. As of August 2026, the price difference between domestic and commercial LPG cylinders is stark:

  • A 14.2-kg domestic cylinder, primarily used by households, costs approximately ₹942 in Delhi, ₹968 in Kolkata, ₹941.50 in Mumbai, and ₹957.50 in Chennai.
  • In contrast, a 19-kg commercial cylinder, typically used by businesses, is priced around ₹2,738 in Delhi, ₹2,872.50 in Kolkata, ₹2,691.50 in Mumbai, and ₹2,906 in Chennai. In some regions, commercial rates can exceed ₹3,000.

This substantial difference underscores the importance of completing the e-KYC process promptly to avoid unexpected expenses.

Why is Aadhaar e-KYC Mandatory for LPG?

The government mandated Aadhaar-based e-KYC for non-PMUY customers in March 2026 as part of broader efforts to streamline the distribution of domestic LPG supplies. This verification helps confirm that connections are used by genuine consumers, thereby combating black marketing and ensuring that subsidies benefit intended recipients. Oil marketing companies have been actively sending reminders due to a significant number of consumers yet to complete the required authentication.

How to Complete Your LPG e-KYC

Customers have several convenient options to complete their biometric Aadhaar authentication:

Act Now to Avoid Disruption

Given the approaching August 16, 2026, deadline, it is crucial for all eligible LPG customers to complete their Aadhaar authentication without delay. Utilizing the respective oil company's app, visiting a distributor, or engaging with delivery personnel are viable methods to ensure continuous access to domestic-rate LPG cylinders.
