LPG, CNG, PNG Prices Unchanged July 9 Amid US-Iran Tensions; Commercial LPG Cheaper

· · 2 min read

Domestic LPG, CNG, and PNG prices remained stable across major Indian cities on July 9, 2026, even as US military strikes in Iran raised concerns over Strait of Hormuz energy supplies. Commercial LPG cylinders saw a significant price reduction.

Domestic LPG, CNG, and PNG prices in major Indian cities remained unchanged on July 9, 2026, even as renewed military actions between the United States and Iran raised significant concerns about global energy supplies. The stability in household fuel costs comes amidst heightened geopolitical tensions affecting the critical Strait of Hormuz shipping route.

Geopolitical Tensions & Energy Markets

US President Donald Trump declared the interim peace agreement with Iran "over," followed by a fresh wave of military strikes targeting facilities along Iran's southern coast. These actions, reportedly in response to Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels, aim to protect commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital channel for a substantial portion of the world's energy supply.

The US military's resumption of hostilities, despite ongoing talks, has sparked worries about the stability of energy prices globally. While international crude oil markets saw an uptick, the Indian government confirmed that domestic supplies of LPG, PNG, and CNG are being fully maintained across the country.

Domestic Fuel Price Updates for July 9

Despite the international developments, prices for 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinders, CNG, and piped natural gas (PNG) saw no change for the month of July. In a positive development for businesses, the price of 19 kg commercial LPG cylinders was reduced from July 1, marking the first cut in 2026. This reduction, ranging from ₹173 to ₹183.50 across cities, followed the restoration of normal supplies to commercial consumers, attributed to improved domestic production and expected imported LPG cargoes.

Additionally, aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices were cut by ₹5 per litre on Wednesday, bringing the Delhi rate down to ₹110 per litre. This marks the first reduction since the conflict had pushed jet fuel prices to a record high, offering some relief to airlines.
