LPG, CNG, PNG Prices Surge: Domestic LPG Up ₹29, CNG Rates Climb in Major Cities

· · 2 min read

Indian households face increased fuel costs as domestic LPG cylinder prices rise by ₹29, reaching ₹942 in Delhi. CNG rates also climbed by ₹2 per kg, while PNG prices remained stable amidst global energy cost pressures and supply challenges.

Indian consumers are grappling with fresh increases in fuel prices, as rates for domestic LPG cylinders and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) saw significant hikes across major cities on June 8, 2026. Piped Natural Gas (PNG) prices, however, remained unchanged.

Domestic LPG Cylinder Prices Rise Again

The price of a 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi has increased to ₹942, up from ₹913, effective June 7. This marks the second such increase in three months, adding ₹29 to the cost for households. Industry sources indicate that this adjustment only partially offsets the substantial losses state-owned oil marketing companies were incurring, estimated at around ₹703 per cylinder before the revision.

Commercial LPG and CNG See Hikes

Commercial LPG cylinder prices were also revised on June 1. A 19-kg cylinder in Delhi now costs ₹3,113.50, an increase of ₹42. Kolkata saw a rise of ₹53.5, bringing its price to ₹3,255.50. The 5-kg Free Trade LPG cylinder in Delhi is up by ₹11, now priced at ₹821.5.

CNG prices continued their upward trend, with a ₹2 per kg hike on May 26, the fourth increase since May 15, cumulatively adding ₹6 per kg. In Delhi, CNG now retails at ₹83.09 per kg.

Global Factors Blamed for Price Increases

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi addressed the public's concerns regarding the gas cylinder price hikes, calling them “inevitable” due to the prevailing global situation. He stated, “We also feel very sad and sorry about the hike in gas cylinder prices, but before criticising, everyone should understand the situation in the entire world. The world is reeling under very serious crises.”

The government explained that the cost of supplying a domestic LPG cylinder has surged to over ₹1,600 following a spike in international prices, particularly after the outbreak of conflict in West Asia. India's LPG import costs are benchmarked against the Saudi Contract Price, which has risen approximately 46 percent since February. Disruptions linked to the Strait of Hormuz have tightened supplies from the Gulf region, leading to higher transportation, base, and insurance costs due to longer transshipment times from distant procurement countries.

Joshi assured that the government is actively working to enhance procurement resources to mitigate hardships for consumers of LPG, petrol, and diesel, despite the challenges of limited global supply sources and extended shipping routes.
