LPG, CNG, PNG Prices See Adjustments on April 13 Amid West Asia Conflict

· · 3 min read

India's LPG, CNG, and PNG prices saw adjustments on April 13, 2026, influenced by heightened geopolitical tensions in West Asia. Commercial LPG cylinders increased by Rs 195.50 in Delhi, while domestic rates remained stable. The government is boosting 5-kg cylinder and PNG supply to manage disruptions.

India's energy consumers are closely watching the latest fuel price adjustments as geopolitical tensions in West Asia continue to impact global supply chains. As of April 13, 2026, prices for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), and Piped Natural Gas (PNG) have seen movements, with commercial LPG witnessing a significant hike.

The US decision to impose a blockade on maritime traffic to and from Iranian ports, following failed peace talks, has intensified concerns regarding global energy markets. India, heavily reliant on imports through the Strait of Hormuz for a large portion of its energy needs, faces direct implications from these developments.

Commercial LPG Prices Rise, Domestic Rates Steady

The price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi increased by Rs 195.50 to Rs 2,078.50, effective April 1. This surge is attributed to a 44 percent rise in the Saudi Contract Price, which escalated from $542 per tonne in March to $780 per tonne in April. In contrast, domestic 14.2 kg LPG cylinder prices have largely remained stable across major cities.

Government Measures to Ensure Fuel Availability

Despite oil marketing companies facing significant under-recoveries on subsidized domestic LPG, India's rates remain competitive compared to neighboring countries. To mitigate disruptions from the six-week-long West Asia conflict, the Indian government has taken proactive steps:

  • Increased 5-kg LPG Cylinder Supply: Over 1.3 million 5-kg free trade LPG cylinders have been sold since March 23, with daily sales surpassing 100,000 units. This initiative aims to improve access for migrant workers and low-income consumers.
  • Accelerated PNG Rollout: More than 424,000 new PNG connections have been activated since March, with over 30,000 consumers transitioning from LPG.
  • Prioritized Domestic Supply: The government has prioritized LPG supply to households, reducing allocations for commercial users like hotels and restaurants.
  • Natural Gas Allocation: Full supply for household PNG and CNG transport has been ensured, alongside increased allocations for fertiliser plants, supplemented by additional LNG imports.

India imports over 40 percent of its crude oil and 90 percent of its LPG from West Asian nations like Saudi Arabia and Qatar. While crude oil shortfalls have been managed by diversifying sources, LPG supplies have been more impacted. Domestic LPG availability remains stable, with over 5.2 million cylinders delivered on April 11, supported by robust online booking and delivery authentication systems.
