Lenskart CEO Bansal Dispels Viral Dress Code Rumors on Bindi, Tilak

Lenskart CEO Peyush Bansal addressed a viral document suggesting the company banned bindis and tilaks. He clarified it's an outdated internal training document, not current policy, and the problematic line was removed in February.

Lenskart CEO Peyush Bansal has publicly clarified that a document circulating on social media, which suggested the eyewear company restricted employees from wearing religious symbols like bindi or tilak, is outdated and does not reflect its current guidelines.

The document, which quickly went viral, sparked significant conversation regarding the company's alleged dress code policies. Bansal took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to directly address the concerns and set the record straight.

Outdated Document, Not Current Policy

In his initial post, Bansal stated, “I’ve been seeing an inaccurate policy document going viral about Lenskart. I want to speak directly that this document does not reflect our present guidelines.” He emphasized that Lenskart’s current policy contains no restrictions on any form of religious expression, including bindi and tilak, and that the company regularly reviews its guidelines.

He further apologized for the confusion, calling the viral document an “outdated version” of their grooming policy that “does not represent who we are today.” Bansal highlighted Lenskart's commitment to cultural expression, noting, “We have thousands of team members across Bharat who wear their faith and culture proudly every day at our stores. They are Lenskart.” He reiterated the company's Indian roots, asserting, “Lenskart was built in Bharat, by Indians, for Indians. Every symbol and every tradition our people carry is a part of who we are as a company. I will never let that be compromised.”

Internal Training Document, Line Removed Earlier

In a follow-up post, Bansal provided more context, explaining that the circulating document was an “outdated internal training document” and not an official HR policy. He admitted that it did contain an “incorrect line about bindi/tilak that should never have been written and does not reflect our values or actual practice.”

Crucially, Bansal revealed that this problematic line was discovered and immediately removed on February 17, 2026, well before the document gained public traction. Taking full responsibility as Founder and CEO, he acknowledged, “But I should have caught this earlier. As Founder and CEO, the responsibility for such lapses is mine.”

Lenskart is now tightening internal checks, with Bansal personally ensuring all training materials undergo stricter review. He concluded by thanking those who raised the issue, stating, “Your voice helps us improve and stay true to what we stand for.”
