Jehangir Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata, the legendary former chairman of Tata Sons and the Tata Group, was renowned for his unwavering commitment to perfection. Born in France in 1904, JRD Tata became a pivotal figure in Indian industry. He surrendered his French citizenship in 1929 and, that same year, earned India's first commercial pilot's license. His pioneering spirit led him to establish Tata Air Mail in 1932, a courier service that connected major Indian cities. This venture evolved into Tata Airlines, India's first domestic carrier, and was later rebranded as Air India in 1946.
In 1938, at the age of 34, Tata became the youngest chairman of the Tata Group. Over his nearly five-decade tenure, he not only strengthened core businesses like steel, power, and hotels but also spearheaded the group's diversification into chemicals, automobiles, pharmaceuticals, financial services, and information technology, transforming it into India's largest industrial empire.
