IndiGo, one of India's leading airlines, has implemented new, higher charges for several services on its domestic flights. These revisions impact fees for infants, excess baggage, and the airline's 'Fast Forward' priority service, according to sources speaking to Business Today TV.
Revised Infant Fee
The fee for infants traveling on domestic routes has seen a significant increase. Previously set at ₹2,000 per infant per sector, the charge has now been raised to ₹3,000. This fee applies to infants between three days and two years of age who travel on an accompanying adult's lap, as they are not allocated a separate seat. IndiGo permits one infant per adult passenger.
Higher Excess Baggage Charges
Passengers carrying luggage beyond their permitted allowance will now face a steeper charge at the airport. The excess baggage fee has been increased from ₹700 per kilogram to ₹800 per kilogram. IndiGo typically provides a free checked baggage allowance of up to 15 kg per customer for applicable domestic fares, limited to one piece. Passengers can also pre-book excess baggage online or via the airline's call centre, which may offer different rates.
Costlier Priority Services
The airline's 'Fast Forward' service, which offers priority check-in and anytime boarding, has also become more expensive. The airport charge for this service on domestic flights has been raised from ₹450 to ₹650 per passenger per sector. This premium service allows eligible passengers to bypass standard queues and board the aircraft before general boarding commences.
These updated charges are now in effect, impacting passengers utilizing these optional add-on services for their domestic travel with IndiGo.
