Indian Railways has initiated a comprehensive upgrade program for its premium Shatabdi and Jan Shatabdi Express trains. This nationwide initiative aims to significantly enhance passenger comfort, improve onboard aesthetics, and elevate service quality across these popular routes, complementing the ongoing expansion of Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat services.
Enhanced Comfort and Modern Amenities
Key areas targeted for improvement include the crucial aspects of passenger experience. Toilet facilities are set to receive better fittings and more efficient drainage systems. Seating comfort will be notably enhanced through upgraded upholstery, while functional amenities such as charging ports and snack tables will be improved or added where needed.
Beyond static features, the revamp also addresses ride quality. Measures are being implemented to reduce jerks within coaches, ensuring a smoother journey. Furthermore, vestibule areas, gangways, and overall coach interiors, including flooring and panels, will undergo significant modernization.
Safety, Aesthetics, and Digital Integration
The modernization drive extends to various other aspects of the train environment. Passengers can expect better lighting throughout the coaches, an improved exterior appearance for the trains, and clearer destination boards. Digital Passenger Information Systems (PAPIS) are also being strengthened to provide more reliable and comprehensive information.
Safety is a paramount concern, with the plan incorporating CCTV-based surveillance systems to enhance security and communication onboard. This structured upgradation effort underscores a passenger-centric approach by Indian Railways.
Implementation and Oversight
The Railway Board has issued directives to all zonal railways, mandating detailed inspections of train rakes. Zonal authorities are required to prepare and execute time-bound action plans to rectify deficiencies in passenger amenities. This process involves audits, identification of gaps, and implementation of corrective measures under strict monitoring mechanisms.
With approximately 25 pairs of Shatabdi Express trains and over two dozen Jan Shatabdi Express trains connecting major cities nationwide, this extensive overhaul aims to meet the rising expectations for cleanliness, reliability, and modern amenities among travelers.
