According to reports, suspected pirates attempted to board the MV Golden Arsenal, prompting the crew to activate emergency protocols and secure themselves within a designated safe room. From there, they alerted authorities to the unfolding situation. As the Indian Navy's INS Trikand rapidly approached the distressed merchant vessel, the suspected pirates, realizing their attempt was compromised, fled the area.
Marine Commandos Secure Vessel
Following the pirates' retreat, a team of highly trained Marine Commandos (MARCOS) from INS Trikand boarded the MV Golden Arsenal. Their primary objective was to conduct a thorough search and sanitization of the vessel, ensuring that no lingering threats remained and that the ship was entirely secure for its crew to resume operations safely.
Ongoing Anti-Piracy Operations
This latest intervention is part of a series of successful anti-piracy operations conducted by the Indian Navy in the strategically vital Gulf of Aden and the broader Western Indian Ocean region. Just weeks prior, on June 19, INS Trikand had responded to a distress call from MV Fareeda 5, which reported a likely piracy attempt in the Western Indian Ocean. Earlier, on May 27, Indian Naval Ship INS Kolkata had also foiled a suspected piracy attempt near merchant vessel MV Mashallah 1 in the Western Indian Ocean. Utilizing its onboard helicopter and boarding teams, INS Kolkata swiftly investigated and neutralized the threat, preventing a potential attack. These consistent efforts highlight the Indian Navy's robust presence and effectiveness in combating maritime piracy.
