This national platform is designed to digitally monitor pregnancies, childbirth, newborn care, and women’s reproductive health across the country, serving as an upgraded version of the existing Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) portal.

Unlike its predecessor, the JANANI digital platform creates a comprehensive, longitudinal digital health record for women throughout their reproductive years. It captures the entire continuum of care, encompassing antenatal care, delivery preparedness, institutional delivery, postnatal care, newborn care, home-based child care, and family planning services.
Officials highlight that the platform's core objective is to bolster last-mile healthcare delivery, ensuring that no mother or child misses essential services, particularly within vulnerable and migratory communities.

QR-Based Digital Health Cards
A standout feature of JANANI is the implementation of QR-enabled digital Mother and Child Health (MCH) cards. These cards grant doctors and healthcare workers instant access to patient records across various healthcare facilities and states. This portability is especially beneficial for migrant families, who frequently face disruptions in healthcare continuity due to relocation, often having to restart medical documentation.
Enhanced Monitoring and Support
The JANANI platform offers a suite of functionalities:
- Real-time tracking of pregnancies and newborn care.
- Automated alerts for high-risk pregnancies, facilitating timely medical intervention.
- Reminder systems for vaccinations and scheduled check-ups.
- Generation of due-lists for follow-up healthcare services.

Registration on the JANANI platform is flexible, allowing beneficiaries to use Aadhaar, ABHA ID, Aadhaar-based OTP authentication, biometric verification, or simply a mobile number. An important pan-India search function enables healthcare workers to retrieve patient records even if beneficiaries relocate. The platform also supports self-registration via web and mobile, empowering individuals to actively manage their healthcare journey.
Early Adoption and Future Impact
The government reports significant early adoption, with over 1.34 crore beneficiary registrations, more than 30 lakh pregnant women enrolled, and over 30 lakh digital MCH cards generated. Additionally, more than 1 lakh biometric verifications have been completed.
