The Indian government has announced significant revisions to passport application fees, set to take effect from July 1 under the Passports (Amendment) Rules, 2026. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has notified new rates for various passport services, including fresh applications, reissues, Tatkal services, and replacements for lost or damaged documents.
Ordinary Passport Applications
Under the updated fee structure, an ordinary fresh passport or the reissue of a 36-page passport will now cost ₹2,500. For applicants requiring a 60-page passport, the fee has been set at ₹3,500.
Tatkal Scheme Revisions
The fee increase also extends to applications made under the expedited Tatkal scheme. A 36-page passport applied for under Tatkal will now cost ₹5,000. Those opting for a 60-page passport through the Tatkal scheme will pay ₹6,000.
Higher Charges for Lost or Damaged Passports
The revised rules introduce higher costs for replacing passports that have been lost, stolen, or damaged. A replacement 36-page passport will now cost ₹5,000, while a 60-page passport replacement will be ₹6,000.
For urgent replacements under the Tatkal category, the fee for a lost or damaged 36-page passport has been set at ₹7,500. Applicants seeking a 60-page replacement passport through Tatkal will face a charge of ₹8,500.
Concession for Minors Maintained
Despite the overall fee hike, the government has retained lower fees for minors. A fresh passport or reissue of a 36-page passport for minors will cost ₹1,750. For minors applying under the Tatkal scheme, the fee has been fixed at ₹4,250.
These comprehensive changes, applicable from July 1, cover all aspects of passport services, ensuring that applicants are aware of the new financial requirements for their travel documents.
