India Fuel Prices Update: LPG, CNG, PNG Rates on June 20 Amidst West Asia Shifts

· · 2 min read

Indian households and transport users face fluctuating fuel costs. As of June 20, 2026, LPG, CNG, and PNG rates remain a key concern, influenced by the recent reopening of the Strait of Hormuz following an agreement between the US and Iran.

New Delhi – Fuel prices across India continue to be a significant factor for both households and the transport sector. As of June 20, 2026, the rates for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), and Piped Natural Gas (PNG) are under close watch, particularly in the wake of recent geopolitical developments in West Asia.

The Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping lane, has reopened following an agreement between the United States and Iran. This development is crucial for India, which imports approximately 60% of its LPG, with about 90% of those shipments typically transiting through the Strait. Similarly, 55-60% of the country's Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) imports pass through this vital waterway.

The US Navy lifted its blockade on Iranian ports, enabling oil tankers to resume passage via Hormuz. US Vice President JD Vance noted that over a dozen ships, carrying more than 12.5 million barrels of oil, transited overnight. The Persian Gulf Strait Authority is now issuing permits for commercial vessels. The US-Iran memorandum of understanding provides a 60-day window for a broader agreement on Iran's nuclear program and proposes a $300 billion reconstruction fund for Iran.

Despite the partial reopening of Hormuz, underlying friction persists, with Switzerland peace talks postponed and maritime traffic still facing logistical and geopolitical challenges. This ongoing uncertainty in West Asia has led to active rationing of LPG supplies in India. Commercial users, such as restaurants and hotels, are experiencing monitored allocations, prioritizing residential kitchens. The government has also extended the booking gap for domestic LPG cylinders from 25 days to 45 days to curb panic buying and hoarding.

Amidst these dynamics, CNG and PNG are increasingly viewed as more stable and economically viable alternatives for many. Consumers are advised to stay informed about city-wise price changes and policy updates to manage their energy expenses effectively.
