ICICI Bank Secures $5 Billion Overseas Borrowing Authority
The board of directors for ICICI Bank, a leading private sector lender, recently granted approval for a revised borrowing limit of up to $5 billion. Strong Financial Performance in Q1 FY27
The approval follows a period of robust financial performance for ICICI Bank. For the first quarter of fiscal year 2027 (April-June), the bank reported a standalone net profit of Rs 14,804.5 crore, marking a substantial 15.95 percent increase year-on-year. Net interest income (NII) also saw healthy growth, rising 12.7 percent year-on-year to reach Rs 24,384.35 crore.
Key Performance Indicators Show Strength
ICICI Bank's net interest margin (NIM) for the June quarter stood at 4.36 percent, an improvement from 4.32 percent recorded in the preceding March quarter and 4.34 percent in the same period last year. These figures underscore the bank's strong operational efficiency and profitability.
Improved Asset Quality and Portfolio Growth
The bank demonstrated significant improvement in asset quality during Q1 FY27. The gross non-performing asset (NPA) ratio decreased to 1.38 percent as of June 30, 2026, down from 1.40 percent in March and 1.67 percent a year earlier. The net NPA ratio also showed a favorable trend at 0.35 percent, compared to 0.41 percent in the year-ago period.
Furthermore, ICICI Bank's total loan portfolio expanded by 19.6 percent year-on-year, reaching Rs 16,31,260 crore by the end of June 2026. Total period-end deposits grew 14 percent year-on-year to Rs 18,33,586 crore, with average deposits also increasing by 14 percent. The average current account savings account (CASA) ratio maintained a healthy level at 38.1 percent.
