Emirates, a leading global airline, has officially rolled out a new payment option allowing customers in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to purchase flight tickets using cryptocurrency. This initiative, available for bookings made in UAE dirhams (AED) via the airline's website and mobile application, integrates Crypto.com Pay as the primary processing platform.
The move provides greater flexibility for travelers, particularly catering to younger, digitally-savvy consumers who manage their finances through smartphones. All transactions are processed securely and adhere to the UAE's stringent regulatory standards for digital payments.
How to Pay with Crypto.com Pay
To utilize the new payment method, customers must possess an active Crypto.com account. The process is straightforward for both the Emirates app and website:
- On the Emirates App: Select Crypto.com Pay at checkout. Users will be redirected to the Crypto.com app to approve the payment from their digital wallet. Upon confirmation, the booking details and e-ticket will be issued within the Emirates App.
- On emirates.com: Choose Crypto.com Pay during checkout. A QR code will appear on the payment page, which customers can scan using their Crypto.com app. After approving the payment in the app, the booking confirmation and e-ticket will be displayed on the website.
Driving Digital Payments and Innovation
Adnan Kazim, Emirates' Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer, highlighted that this launch fulfills the airline's commitment to expanding payment choices for its customers. He noted that the swift implementation of the service, less than a year after signing a memorandum of understanding with Crypto.com, underscores the collaborative efforts of both companies and the UAE's supportive regulatory environment for financial technology.
This initiative also aligns with Dubai's broader economic vision, specifically the D33 Economic Agenda's Cashless Strategy. This strategy aims for 90% of all financial transactions across government and private sectors in Dubai to be digital by the end of 2026. Eric Anziani, President and Chief Operating Officer of Crypto.com, emphasized the partnership as a significant milestone for their payment platform and a reflection of the UAE's focus on innovation in digital finance.
Crypto.com Pay is the latest addition to Emirates' growing portfolio of payment solutions, which also includes EMI payment plans for Indian customers through various banking partners, and optional travel insurance during the booking process.
