Domestic LPG, CNG, PNG Prices Unchanged July 10 Amid Rising Hormuz Tensions

· · 3 min read

Domestic LPG, CNG, and PNG prices remained stable across major Indian cities on July 10, 2026, though commercial LPG rates were reduced. Concerns about future energy supplies are rising due to renewed US-Iran strikes near the Strait of Hormuz.

On July 10, 2026, the prices of 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinders, CNG, and piped natural gas (PNG) remained unchanged across major Indian cities. This stability comes even as commercial 19 kg LPG cylinders saw a price reduction earlier in the month. However, renewed military strikes between the United States and Iran have sparked significant concerns over the security of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy supply route.

Geopolitical Tensions Reignite Energy Supply Fears

The latest escalation began after US President Donald Trump declared a preliminary peace deal with Iran effectively “over.” Hours later, the US launched a fresh and larger wave of military strikes against Iran on Wednesday. These strikes targeted facilities along Iran's southern coast, with the stated objective of protecting commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian media reported explosions around Qeshm and Sirik, describing them as the first strikes against Iran since late last month. The US military confirmed it had resumed hostilities despite ongoing talks and a previous peace agreement, asserting the strikes were a response to alleged Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

Commercial LPG Sees Price Cut, Supplies Stabilize

Before the recent re-escalation of hostilities, Indian Oil had reduced the price of 19 kg commercial LPG cylinders from July 1, marking the first reduction in 2026, with cuts ranging from ₹173 to ₹183.50 across cities. Additionally, the government had restored commercial LPG supplies to hotels, restaurants, and other businesses to pre-crisis levels after earlier supply concerns eased.

Shipping Activity in Strait of Hormuz Under Scrutiny

Shipping data reflects heightened caution in the region. On July 7, the India-flagged Nanda Devi was noted as the sole inbound LPG carrier at the Strait of Hormuz, en route to Qatar's Ras Laffan for loading. While total transits through the Strait of Hormuz remained steady at 47 on July 7, there was a significant increase in 'dark crossings'—vessels operating without visible tracking. According to S&P Global MINT and S&P Global Commodities at Sea, 36% of crossings during the day were carried out while operating dark, compared with a July-to-date average of 21%.
