Delhi's vibrant nightlife is set to receive an extended boost this weekend as Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that restaurants, cafes, and other eligible commercial establishments will be permitted to operate until 4 AM for the FIFA World Cup 2026 final.
The decision, revealed on Friday, July 18, 2026, aims to accommodate football enthusiasts eager to watch the highly anticipated clash between defending champions Argentina and Spain. The final, featuring Lionel Messi's quest for a historic consecutive title and a fourth world championship, is expected to draw massive viewership into the early hours of Monday morning.
Boosting Business and Fan Experience
Chief Minister Gupta framed the temporary operational extension as a direct benefit stemming from Delhi's ongoing economic and administrative regulatory overhauls. "Every football fan has watched Lionel Messi make history. Now, history has one more story to tell. A legend. A teenage prodigy. One trophy. One night that generations will remember. Delhi is ready for that night," Gupta stated.
The extended hours are being implemented under the capital’s pre-existing 24x7 business-friendly operating framework, a cornerstone of the administration's recent ease-of-doing-business initiatives. By temporarily bypassing traditional nighttime closing mandates, the government seeks to achieve a dual objective: providing a significant boost to hospitality venues and enabling thousands of residents to experience the late-night broadcast collectively.
"With the city's 24x7 business-friendly operating framework already in place under our government's ease of doing business reforms, restaurants, cafes and other eligible establishments across the capital can welcome fans till 4 am this weekend, making it easier for the city to experience football's biggest night together," CM Gupta added.
Citywide Screening Events Expected
The regulatory pivot is anticipated to transform Delhi into a sprawling live-screening arena. Widespread viewing events are expected to erupt across the city's major commercial hubs, turning the late-night sports broadcast into a significant city-wide cultural and economic event. Fans will have ample opportunity to celebrate or commiserate well into the morning, creating a memorable collective experience for the FIFA World Cup 2026 final.
