The Delhi Traffic Police have announced significant traffic diversions and regulated movement across key parts of the national capital on September 2, 2026. These measures, in effect from 10 AM to 3 PM, are necessitated by a crucial motorcade rehearsal ahead of the BRICS Leaders’ Summit 2026.
BRICS Summit Preparations Impact Delhi Roads
The BRICS Leaders’ Summit is scheduled to take place from September 11 to 13, 2026, at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan. The rehearsal on September 2 is a preparatory step to ensure smooth logistics during the high-profile international event.
According to the detailed advisory, traffic regulation will be implemented across more than 35 roads and involve 22 distinct diversion points. Major corridors and intersections expected to experience restrictions include:

- Teen Murti Marg
- Akbar Road
- Tees January Marg
- Rajesh Pilot Marg
- Motilal Nehru Marg
- Dr Zakir Hussain Marg
- Bhagwan Das Road
- Mathura Road
- Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg
Additionally, areas around Patel Chowk, Janpath, AIIMS, Moti Bagh, Dhaula Kuan, Lodhi Road, Neela Gumbad, and sections of Ring Road will also see regulated movement.
Commuter Advice and Alternate Routes
Commuters are urged to account for extra travel time and consider using public transport, particularly the Delhi Metro, to minimize inconvenience. The advisory emphasizes that emergency and essential-service vehicles will be given priority passage through the affected routes.
Specific alternate route plans have been issued for those traveling to major railway stations, including New Delhi Railway Station, Old Delhi Railway Station, and Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station. Passengers heading to Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport are also advised to leave well in advance and prepare for potential delays, with the Metro being the recommended mode of transport where practical.
While road-based feeder and bus services may face diversions, Delhi Metro services will remain fully operational across all stations. Taxi and auto-rickshaw services will continue, but parking will be restricted to designated areas only.
