A monumental ₹19,390 crore Namo Bharat corridor has been proposed for the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR), promising to revolutionize daily commutes by providing a direct, high-speed rail link between Gurugram and Greater Noida. This ambitious infrastructure project aims to offer a much faster and more efficient alternative to the region's increasingly congested roads and lengthy Metro routes that often pass through central Delhi.
Project Overview and Scope
The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Namo Bharat corridor has been submitted, marking a crucial step towards securing government approvals. The proposal outlines a total corridor length of approximately 63 kilometers, with 50 km situated in Haryana and 13 km in Uttar Pradesh. Critically, this corridor is designed to bypass central Delhi, creating a direct east-west connection across the NCR.
Beyond the high-speed Namo Bharat trains, the project also includes plans for several new Metro stations. These additions are intended to enhance last-mile connectivity within Gurugram, Faridabad, and Noida, further easing congestion and improving accessibility.
Funding Structure
As per the submitted proposal, the financing for this extensive project will be multifaceted:
- Soft Loans: Approximately ₹10,102 crore will be secured through soft loans.
- State Contributions: The Haryana government is slated to infuse ₹4,555 crore, while the Uttar Pradesh government will contribute ₹1,364 crore.
- Central Government Share: The Centre is expected to provide ₹3,367 crore towards the project's realization.
Key Benefits for Commuters
Should the Namo Bharat corridor receive its final green light, commuters across the Delhi-NCR stand to gain significantly:
- Direct Connectivity: Seamless travel between Gurugram, Faridabad, and Noida without the need to traverse central Delhi, ensuring faster access to key commercial and residential hubs.
- Improved Integration: Enhanced connectivity across the NCR due to better integration with existing Metro and Namo Bharat networks.
- Reduced Congestion: A substantial reduction in dependence on road transport, thereby alleviating congestion on major expressways such as the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway (Gurugram and Faridabad stretches), Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, Yamuna Expressway, and sections of the Faridabad-Noida-Ghaziabad Expressway. It will also ease traffic on arterial roads like the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway, Mathura Road (NH-19) through Faridabad, and Noida-Greater Noida Link Road.
