The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is moving forward with its ambitious plans to construct a 35-meter-high observation wheel in Mayur Vihar, New Delhi. This project, provisionally named the “Delhi Eye,” aims to provide residents and tourists with panoramic views of the city skyline, drawing parallels to iconic structures like the London Eye and Ain Dubai.
Mayur Vihar Site Selected for Delhi Eye
The proposed site for the Delhi Eye is a vacant 3.84-acre land parcel located within the Mayur Vihar District Centre. The DDA has initiated the project by issuing an Expression of Interest (EOI), inviting private entities to develop, operate, and maintain the attraction under a long-term licensing agreement spanning 55 years, which includes the construction phase.
Officials confirm that the land use for the site is already permissible under the Master Plan of Delhi 2021 and the Unified Building Bye-Laws, 2016, meaning no change in land use will be required. This is expected to expedite the project's development once contracts are awarded.
Project Details and Future Enhancements
The centerpiece of the development will be a 35-meter-high cantilevered observation wheel. Beyond the primary attraction, the DDA is also exploring the integration of additional recreational and commercial features at the site. These could include various amenities designed to enhance the visitor experience and make the location more appealing to families and tourists.
While the concept of a Delhi Eye has been discussed for years, the recent EOI signifies a renewed and concerted effort by the DDA to bring the project to fruition. This push follows demonstrated interest from private companies in developing such recreational and commercial facilities through a license-fee model.
Stakeholder Engagement and Timeline
To further accelerate the project and finalize potential features, a stakeholder consultation meeting is scheduled for July 9, 2026, at 11:30 AM. The venue for this crucial discussion will be announced via the DDA’s tender portal. Interested companies have been given until 5 PM on July 28 to submit their responses to the EOI, which must include their corporate profiles and financial details for the past three years. The Expression of Interest was officially published on the DDA website on June 30.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy by the DDA to leverage long-term public-private partnerships for key tourism, recreation, and urban infrastructure projects across the city. A similar model is being considered for a five-acre amusement park planned for Rohini’s Sector 29.
