Daily vs. Monthly SIPs: Consistency Outweighs Frequency for Wealth Creation

· · 2 min read

A recent PhonePe report highlights a surge in daily SIPs, particularly from smaller cities. However, financial experts emphasize that long-term wealth growth hinges more on consistent investing and time in the market than how often contributions are made.

Daily SIPs Gain Traction, Fueling Investment Debate

The debate over the optimal Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) frequency has been reignited following a new report from PhonePe Mutual Funds. Since launching its Daily SIP feature in December 2025, the platform has seen over five lakh investors adopt it, with transactions growing nearly five-fold between January and June 2026. The average daily investment stands at ₹50, and a significant 77% of these daily SIP investors originate from tier-2 and tier-3 cities, signaling broader accessibility.

While daily SIPs offer increased flexibility and more frequent market exposure, the core question remains: does investing more often truly lead to superior long-term wealth creation?

Understanding Systematic Investment Plans (SIPs)

SIPs have become a cornerstone of investment strategy for millions, allowing individuals to regularly invest a fixed sum into mutual funds instead of a single lump sum. This approach leverages the principle of rupee cost averaging, where investors automatically purchase more units when prices are low and fewer when prices are high. This mechanism effectively reduces the impact of short-term market volatility without requiring investors to time the market.

Does Frequency Truly Matter for Returns?

Despite the appeal of more frequent market participation, financial experts largely agree that the investment frequency—be it daily, weekly, or monthly—does not significantly alter long-term returns. Equity markets generate returns based on fundamental factors like earnings growth, economic conditions, and crucially, the duration an investor remains invested. Consequently, the benefit of daily averaging over longer investment horizons is often marginal when compared to a disciplined, consistent monthly strategy.

Who Benefits Most from Daily SIPs?

While not necessarily yielding higher returns, daily SIPs offer distinct advantages for certain investor profiles. Their flexibility and micro-investing capabilities make them particularly suitable for first-time investors. Moreover, individuals whose earnings accrue daily, such as merchants, shop owners, and self-employed professionals, find daily SIPs align better with their cash flow patterns. The ability to start with small amounts, like ₹10 a day, and stop contributions without penalties further enhances their appeal.

The Real Drivers of Long-Term Wealth

Ultimately, financial planners advise that investors should select an SIP frequency based on their personal cash flow, convenience, and commitment to investment discipline, rather than anticipating superior returns from more frequent contributions. Whether investments are made daily, weekly, or monthly, the consensus among experts is clear: unwavering consistency and remaining invested through various market cycles are paramount for achieving long-term wealth creation.
