CNG Prices Up ₹2 in Delhi, Mumbai Amid Geopolitical Tensions; Check Latest LPG & PNG Rates

· · 2 min read

Energy companies hiked CNG prices by ₹2 per kg in Delhi and Mumbai on May 17, 2026, driven by rising global crude costs and ongoing geopolitical conflicts. Consumers can find updated rates for LPG, CNG, and PNG across major Indian cities.

CNG Price Hike Impacts Delhi, Mumbai

On May 17, 2026, energy companies implemented a ₹2 per kilogram increase in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) prices across Delhi and Mumbai. This adjustment comes as global crude oil prices continue to climb, a direct consequence of the escalating US-Israel-Iran conflict and broader geopolitical tensions in West Asia.

India's significant reliance on West Asian countries for crude oil (over 40%) and LPG imports (90%) makes it particularly vulnerable to such international supply disruptions. While no immediate dry-outs have been reported at distributorships, the ongoing monitoring of LPG supplies underscores the volatility in the energy market.

Government Subsidies Offer Relief

Despite the market fluctuations, the Indian government maintains its commitment to supporting households through various subsidy schemes. The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) continues to offer financial assistance, effectively reducing the cost of LPG cylinders for eligible low-income families. To date, this scheme has provided gas connections to over 10 crore households nationwide.
