The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially opened the application window for Class 12 students seeking post-result services following the declaration of board exam results for 2026. Students can now apply for verification of marks, obtain photocopies of their evaluated answer sheets, and request re-evaluation of specific answers.
This initiative comes amid concerns from some students regarding unexpectedly low marks and questions surrounding the board’s newly implemented On-Screen Marking (OSM) system used during evaluation this year. CBSE states that this multi-stage process is designed to enhance transparency and allow students to review how their examination papers were assessed, acknowledging that minor errors can occur given the vast volume of answer scripts handled annually.
Understanding the Multi-Stage Application Process
Under the revised system, students cannot directly apply for re-evaluation. Instead, a structured three-stage process has been introduced:
Stage 1: Obtain Scanned Answer Sheet Copies
- Students must first apply to receive scanned copies of their evaluated answer books.
- Application Window: May 19 to May 22, 2026
- Fee: ₹700 per subject
Stage 2: Verification of Marks
- After carefully reviewing the scanned copies of their answer sheets, students may then apply for verification of marks.
- Application Window: May 26 to May 29, 2026
- Fee: ₹500 per subject
Stage 3: Re-evaluation of Specific Questions
- Only if discrepancies are found during the mark verification process, students can proceed to request re-evaluation of specific questions.
- Application Window: May 26 to May 29, 2026
- Fee: ₹100 per question
Addressing Concerns Over Digital Evaluation
The 2026 re-evaluation process has garnered particular attention due to several student complaints online, alleging that diagrams, entire pages, or parts of answers might have been overlooked during the digital assessment. Reports indicate that nearly 68,000 answer sheets required rescanning due to image quality issues, with approximately 13,000 needing manual evaluation after persistent scanning problems.
Despite these concerns, CBSE has defended its OSM system, describing it as a globally accepted and transparent evaluation method. The board emphasized that extensive quality checks, webinars, and training sessions were conducted prior to its implementation.
CBSE Emphasizes Transparency and Error Rectification
“The CBSE is an institution that works in the best interest of students, and we operate with complete transparency. We evaluate approximately 1.25 crore answer scripts; there is a possibility that an error may occur somewhere. To rectify such errors, we offer certain facilities to our students,”
said Sanyam Bhardwaj, CBSE Controller of Examinations, to ANI. He reiterated that students would have access to their evaluated scripts to identify and raise concerns about any discrepancies.
How to Apply for Post-Result Services
Students can submit their applications exclusively online through the official CBSE post-result services portal. Access requires logging in with their roll number, school number, and admit card ID. The board strongly advises students to rely solely on official CBSE websites for updates and to avoid any third-party portals claiming to process re-evaluation requests.
Important Note: Marks May Change
CBSE reminds all applicants that marks can either increase, decrease, or remain unchanged after re-evaluation. The revised score, once processed, will be considered final.
