· · 2 min read

Astra Microwave Products Ltd. shares surged nearly 14% to a new record high after securing a Rs 2,205 crore defense order from Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL). The five-year contract involves supplying Advanced Array Assembly Units for the indigenous Uttam Radar program.

Shares of Astra Microwave Products Ltd. experienced a significant surge in trading, climbing nearly 14% on Friday to reach an all-time high. This impressive stock performance followed the announcement of a substantial defense contract awarded by state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL).

The company confirmed in a regulatory filing that it has received an order valued at Rs 2,205.23 crore from HAL. This major contract is for the procurement of 122 Advanced Array Assembly Units (AAAU) and 121 Interface Frames, components crucial for the Uttam Radar programme.

The Uttam Radar Program and Domestic Defense

The Uttam Radar is an indigenously developed Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar designed for fighter aircraft. This program is a cornerstone of India's strategic efforts to bolster its domestic defense manufacturing capabilities and reduce its reliance on imported military equipment. The order from HAL is slated for execution over a period of five years, indicating a long-term revenue stream for Astra Microwave.

Stock Performance and Market Context

Following the news, Astra Microwave's stock climbed 13.60% to hit a record high of Rs 1,960. It later settled slightly lower, trading 11.38% higher at Rs 1,921.70. This latest rally continues a strong performance trend for the company, which has seen its shares rally 103.21% over the last six months, earning it the label of a 'multibagger stock'.

Despite the positive news, both the BSE and NSE have placed Astra Microwave under the long-term Additional Surveillance Measure (ASM) framework. This measure is typically implemented by exchanges to alert investors about potential heightened volatility and to enhance market surveillance, ensuring greater transparency.
