Anmol Bishnoi Seeks Formal Surrender in Salman Khan Firing Case

· · 2 min read

Anmol Bishnoi, wanted in the April firing outside actor Salman Khan's residence, has moved a Mumbai MCOCA court seeking to formally surrender. Extradited from the US in late 2025, Bishnoi aims to participate in the ongoing trial.

Anmol Bishnoi, a key accused in the April 2024 firing incident outside actor Salman Khan's residence, has filed an application before a special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court in Mumbai, requesting permission to formally surrender.

Bishnoi, the younger brother of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, was extradited from the United States to India in November 2025. Following his arrival, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested him in connection with an alleged terrorist-gangster nexus linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi syndicate. His application states a desire to voluntarily surrender to face trial and participate in judicial proceedings, ensuring a fair process.

Currently held in Tihar Jail, New Delhi, under NIA custody, Bishnoi's plea asks the Mumbai court to issue a production warrant to Tihar authorities. This warrant would facilitate his formal surrender and subsequent remand proceedings, which could occur either physically or virtually.

The petition argues that allowing a formal surrender would not prejudice the prosecution and would instead help expedite the ongoing trial, preventing unnecessary delays. It highlights that statements from three prosecution witnesses have already been recorded in Bishnoi's absence.

The case originates from an incident on April 14, 2024, when two motorcycle-borne assailants allegedly opened fire outside Salman Khan’s Galaxy Apartments in Bandra before fleeing. Mumbai police subsequently invoked MCOCA, alleging the attack was orchestrated by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The trial is currently proceeding against co-accused Vicky Gupta, Sagar Pal, Sonukumar Bishnoi, Mohammed Rafiq Chaudhary, and Harpal Singh, all of whom are in judicial custody. Another accused, Anuj Kumar Thapan, died in police custody. Lawrence and Anmol Bishnoi remain named as wanted accused in this high-profile case.
