Analysts See Modest Q2FY27 for Indian IT; AI a 'Dark Horse' for Growth

· · 3 min read

Brokerage firms predict a modest improvement for Indian IT stocks in Q2FY27, with global uncertainty and cautious client spending limiting significant growth. However, artificial intelligence demand is emerging as a crucial 'dark horse' opportunity.

Indian IT services companies like TCS, Infosys, HCLTech, Wipro, and Tech Mahindra are navigating a period of cautious client spending and global uncertainty, with analysts projecting a subdued yet improving performance for Q2FY27. While a broad-based recovery remains distant, the sector is finding unexpected tailwinds in the burgeoning demand for artificial intelligence (AI) implementation.

Q2FY27 Outlook: Modest Gains Amid Headwinds

Several brokerage firms, including Morgan Stanley, PL Capital, IDBI Capital, Kotak Institutional Equities, and YES Securities, concur that while some improvement is expected in the second quarter of the fiscal year 2027, a substantial rebound in client discretionary spending is still some time away. Weak demand, persistent pricing pressure, and geopolitical uncertainties continue to temper growth expectations.

Positive factors supporting margins include a weaker Indian rupee and easing wage costs. Additionally, strategic deal wins could enable select Tier-II IT companies to outperform their larger peers, as clients remain selective in their investments.

AI Emerges as a Key Growth Driver

Morgan Stanley has identified India's IT services sector as an unexpected 'dark horse' beneficiary of the global AI boom. The firm notes that while AI software development is advancing rapidly, enterprises require skilled partners to effectively deploy and integrate these AI solutions into their existing infrastructures. This creates a significant opportunity for Indian IT firms to leverage their expertise in implementation and managed services.

Despite the encouraging demand for AI-related services, analysts caution that it has not yet fully compensated for the softness observed in traditional IT services. However, the trend suggests a shifting landscape where AI will increasingly become a core component of future growth.

Accenture's Performance Offers Comfort

The recent strong quarterly performance by global consulting giant Accenture has provided a degree of comfort to observers of the Indian IT sector. Firms like Kotak and YES Securities highlighted Accenture's robust consulting growth, strong Managed Services bookings, and rising enterprise AI demand as positive indicators. These trends suggest that while overall technology spending may be subdued, specific areas like AI and managed services are showing resilience and growth potential that could eventually benefit Indian players.

  • IDBI Capital favors HCLTech and TCS. HCLTech is noted for its stronger operating momentum, while TCS is highlighted for attractive valuations.
  • PL Capital maintains 'buy' ratings on companies such as Coforge, Infosys, Persistent Systems, TCS, and Tech Mahindra.
  • Kotak Institutional Equities has 'buy' ratings for Coforge, Indegene, and Tech Mahindra, with an 'add' rating for Infosys and TCS.
  • YES Securities recommends 'buy' for TCS, Infosys, Wipro, and Tech Mahindra.

While specific target prices vary, the consensus points to a selective approach, with companies demonstrating strong operational execution and a clear strategy for AI integration likely to fare better in the evolving market.
